A/C cooling is erratic

2015 Tech, v6. Without warning the a/c will stop cooling. I keep auto mode on and recirculate. When it stops, I can tap the temperature down a notch or two, and eventually around 64 - 62 degrees it will start cooling again, and it cools REALLY WELL. It's not a refrigerant issue. Then I can dial the temp up a degree or two at a time, and it keeps cooling fine. I will get to 70 or 71 and leave it there, and no problem for a hour (on a trip). Then it will stop cooling and I go through the process again. My son works on cars somewhat, he bought a $10 relay (goes in the fuse box) for the A/C at a parts store, and it got better, about 90% of the time. It still cuts off sometimes, and I get it back on faster now.

Any ideas? Anyone else have this issue? Would an Acura relay perform better than a brand X?

Could be the a/c clutch coil getting weak. Next time you think it should be working and its not, with the car running give the face of the clutch a lttle nuge towards the compressor with an old wooden broom handle. If the a/c comes on then it's probably a clutch problem. The other thing it could be is the low pressure switch going bad.
Not sure how tight your car is to work on but we tried to replace the clutch on my sons 07 civic SI but there was not enough room to get it off of the shaft without lossening up the compressor. Good luck
