Let me echo the sentiment that if there really is a huge problem with the DCT or the other transmissions, we'll probably know pretty quickly. Odds are someone will put a huge amount of miles on their car. Wait until the first of the year to allow for a little negotiating room, then consider pulling the trigger.

waiting for the 2016 TLX? i'm just wondering when they will launch sales of the SH-AWD version already!!! Especially for states where snow is a factor for 4-5 months of the year! Kind of odd that Acura would build a model with SH-AWD and test it along with the FWD models, but won't sell it yet? I guess that was a trend w/ Acura though. I believe the 4g TL was the same way.
...I am slowly losing patience in this waiting game.

*EDIT : come to think of it, I went back to that same dealership later and talked with a GM or sales manager and he said it probably wouldn't be until October*

I believe the SH-AWD version isn't supposed to be released until Sept./Oct. but one of the dealers I talked to said they were supposed to have one in by the end of this month. I'm not sure if he was confused or if what we heard/read earlier was wrong.

The dealer I actually visited even told me that the SH-AWD was built first, but the fact that majority of the states don't need AWD, they decided to sell FWD first. Still don't understand their strategy and logic here unless they're trying to get a better census data of what they can sell and what is attracting majority of the customers?

My first year ILX 6MT has been the worst car I've owned. The road noise it produces from struts to......has been VERY frustrating for me. And this is a 30k car.

Yup, I know. However, I didn't say Spirited Driver hasn't had problems, only that I haven't had any issues. I've said it before, but I've NEVER heard what you're describing.

i would wait for the '16 for sure if i don't need a car right away. usually for Acura first year model only runs about 6 months before the next model year comes out. case in point: '13 RDX and '14 MDX were only on the market not that long before the '14 RDX and '15 MDX came out.

I am waiting for MMY refresh.....2018, I want to see the changes and also want the i4 w/advance package or a possible turbo! Only have 12k miles on my 2011 MDX, I think in 3 more years I will be ready for either a 2018 TLX or RDX.

I will wait because I'm not ready to part with my TL yet. The other reason is I'm still hoping they make a Type-s in a couple years. In the meantime I'm very comfortable driving my current 2006 that has 66k miles on it- lots of life and style in her still.

Honda will not deviate there brake on the new model, I highly doubt it. Unless they have already been spec'd. Because the previous Type S was more or less an after thought.
The SH-AWD model is simply a luxury vehicle....lol Honda tried it with different Pads and rotors actually... there was a compromise and who want to clean wheels all the time...

As someone else pointed out, it was very clearly a cost cutting measure as evidenced by the 05 RL coming out the following year with similar large calipers with Acura logos (made to look like the TL Brembo's), but were nowhere near as attractive. However they couldn't downgrade in the middle of that TL generation, and most certainly not for the higher performing Type-S.
But if cfox indeed works for Acura, the "there was a compromise and who want to clean wheels all the time" comment is a clear testament that Acura has given in to the bean counters

I'm waiting a year.
Mostly that's because I hoping against hope that the RLX hybrid is not vaporware. If it is, or if the drive in that is unexpectedly awful, I will likely end up in a TLX.
That I4 TLX tech is starting to look mighty tempting, though.
Definitely holding my powder for now. Meantime enjoying rolling in my cheap beater Pilot meant for winter travel.

Lol @ threatening PM's about going to your house. Some people are crazy. Do what I do and get a firearm. 15 bullets in a clip gives them 15 reasons not to enter your house.
In any case. I agree most first year gen cars have issues. However if I was to wait until 2016 id be eyeing the revised ILX with that new 8spd DCT. That would be a nice zippy commuter car.

I believe it is a myth because a few may have had issues, now ALL first year cars get that tag.

I personally experienced many of the problems, including radio failure, moisture in headlights, brake rotor problems, etc. Honda fixed most of the problems for me for free, many after the initial warranty expired. The most frequently reported problem seemed to be AC failure, which some folks had to pay $4,000 to fix. I fortunately did not experience that problem.
I am very interested in getting a TLX, and will probably buy one soon if I can get a good deal. If I cannot get a good deal because the car was just released, I plan to wait for a 2016 model.

My 2014 IS350 had annoying issues. Mostly the infotainment system and some radiator fluid smell inside the cabin.
My 2014 Q50 has issues too. Same infotainment issues. We were suppose to get Pandora app a long time ago. Guess what, almost 1 year later, still nothing. LOL Also, the AC stinks. Smells like must. Replaced the cabin filter at 400 miles and it temp. fixed it. Smell returned. No fix for the smell A/C at the moment.
The trunk has a dead body smell too. But I remove the spare tire and the dead body smell is gone. The smell was so bad, it was seeping into the cabin.
Also, people in colder climates has had their remote control steering lock up making the car useless.
But every car will have their issues. 2003 G35 had tons of issues. My 2006 G35 also had tons of issues.
Just buy extended warranty.

I am not sure this counts as proof, and I am not saying most or all first year cars have problems, but the first gen 04 TSX had many problems that were not as frequently reported by owners of the later year models. I bought a TSX the first week they went on sale, and it had many problems. Here are links to posts on the TSX section of Acurazine that discuss many of the first year problems.

Three Wheelin'
But you do see recalls (and an even better example would be TSBs) that are specific to certain years, though, and in many cases it seems like first models get hit the hardest in our world and I can give you a laundry list of items I have experienced with my '94 Accord and in my current '09 TSX that later years did not have. The TLX is a completely brand new car with TWO brand new trannys (and Honda/Acura's track record with trannys is not always the best) and with all sorts of new technology in it so I don't think it would be a stretch to assume that there will be issues that will end up being corrected in later years. This car could be bulletproof, who knows, but I don't think one would be foolish to consider it.

I'm waiting for the mid model updates. I think this will occur in 2017. I think they will move the fogs to the bumper, add some horsepower and if Acura brings back the Type-S, I think they will make the tailpipes visible. We'll see.
#71
Wouldn't it be 2018? It's normally split three years and two years right? Of course, the 2018 TLX will release in calendar year 2017 if this is what you meant.

I dunno if its just me, but i still find 3G TL-S the sickest looking TL out there, the car is not even old but has already became a legend in Acura history...at least to me!

Know what? Up until yesterday I thought 3G owners who said the 3G was better looking than the TLX were just being biased. But after seeing it for the first time up close at the dealership, I have to agree with you. I'm sure the TLX drives nicely and has updated technology but they do NOT look better than the 3G at all.

2 types of issues with new cars:
Design issues - might take years to show up. i.e. transmissions problem can happens after 60-70K..you will never know
Assembly issues for new models: Usually corrected in the first 3-6 months. So, if TLX production begin in July, I'd say it safe to buy car that made after November
