Any doubts on 2nd gen TLX for 2020? Err...make that 2021?

That mound of snow is impressive. Wow!

Yeah, they should be in full camp wrap before too long unlike the bulky camo we see here. I cant wait for NYAIS as I’ve heard this car will be a substantial improvement vs the current.

I will just pretend that I see a hood vent under the wrap on that 2nd TL.

Those mules look a lot like the current gen tlx. Maybe the camo is working but was expecting significant body changes that has been the norm for the tl/tlx generational changes. Those wheels remind me some of the older gen tl a-spec rims.

Someone posted this at vtec.net. I hope it's wrong.....
FYI-
MY2020 TLX is not an updated model. 2020 MTOCs are already showing in internal vehicle locate software with all of the same trims-color changes reflect the trend toward the upcharge colors on SUVs (Performance Red, Canyon Bronze). On A-Spec models, Apex Blue, Majestic Black, and Performance Red are upcharge colors (Apex Blue replaces Still Night Pearl, Performance Red replaces San Marino Red, and Majestic Black replaces Crystal Black).
If they are showing any sort of TLX prototype at NYIAS it is news to the dealer body.

If you believe past behavior is indeed the best predictor of future behavior, 2020 would be a TLX redesign year. Honda/Acura almost religiously redesigns their sedans every fifth year. Data from Wikipedia.
Their five year service life includes some refresh/facelift in between, which I didn't include.

So according to my Acura folks, there is no change in the 2020 model, released in the fall, other than a new colour and likely fewer choices - e.g. the 2.4 will only come in ASpec. The 2021 model year will likely come out in summer 2020 and include the Type S.
#293
yeah I posted something similar in a few Acura groups on FB. I’m not sure what’s going to be at the NY auto show but I was told it wasn’t going to be the TLX. In regards to Pebble Beach, everyone is clueless as to exactly what that car will be. I’m thinking a potential Legend/RLX replacement.

What's the point of releasing a 2020 in fall and 2021 in summer. Why not release the 2020 in early 2020 like the article says. Marketing wise it would make sense to introduce a new car in the 1st year of the decade
#296
Didn't someone people report that they are shutting down TLX production already? New TLX should debut in New York and go on sale in the fall. Type S release next summer. This is what I heard from my dealer.
#297
Also with the rather large current incentives on the 2019's one would think along with the rumored end of 19's production that the 2020 should be released by the fall at the latest. Typical tight lipped Acura will keep us guessing for a few weeks until the NY auto show.

Judging by the mules and timing of these sightings (not to mention this Summer’s debut of an RLX concept), it seemed obvious that the 1G TLX would be around for another model year.

Type S from what I have been told is most likely a 11/2020 release as a 2021 model year. On these forums people are saying later this year a new TLX is coming out. A lot of variations on when a 2nd gen TLX is going to be released. The type S is from all indications a late 2020 product. If a new TLX 2nd gen is being released this year the discounts on the current model will be out by summer.

If this is the case then I would think the tech package will be standard on every TLX as well as the A-Spec appearance package. Maybe they make the tech package standard on all models, A-Spec an option on all models. Think if you get down to what made the 3rd gen sell well as the car was well optioned out even with the base model. Navigation option at this point with Carplay or Android Auto doesn't add much at all. Google maps or Waze is far better than the Acura Navigation system and at least the voice recognition for me with Android Auto is light years ahead of trying to use the Acura navigation using voice commands while driving. The stock voice navigation capabilities are terrible. It's ten times faster to stop and enter an address rather than try to use the voice controls while driving. Google maps is far superior using voice control while driving. To this day I have never gotten the Acura Nav using voice commands to set the navigation correctly.

Saw this on Temple of VTEC and wondered if other forum members who work at dealers could validate. Someone saying on there that MY2020 are showing in the system with no difference besides paint colors implying 2020 models are the same as 2019. Although I don't know how much Acura shares with dealer networks. We always seem to think they're not given much information.

I love spreadsheets.
Based on the 2020 Acura TLX Accessory Installation Instructions thread, the body paneling is exactly the same as 18 & 19 model years. Just more evidence that the 2nd generation TLX won't be revealed in the 2020 MY.
One can hold out hopes that the TLX Type-S will still be revealed under the current 1st gen platform...its better than nothing.

There are four lights!
My sales guy at my dealer is absolutely adamant that this year will be the new MDX. Maybe he’s right.

Just negotiated with a dealer 2019 V6 ASPEC, of course, I asked about 2020MY. It's gonna be same model as 2019, will start production in a month.

If it's going to be another year for the redesigned TLX, (which at this point appears to be the case), it better be well worth the wait. I thought for sure Acura would have put out the 2G TLX this Fall and am quite disappointed to learn otherwise. If they knock it out of the park with the redesign, it will have been worth the extra year's wait but if they half-a$$ it, it's not going to be pretty for Acura.

New model
Keep in mind that Acura is releasing “the sportiest” production ready Acura sedan in a month...so yes...a TLX and possibly a Type S new model release would make more sense to do it in 2020 after this Acura sedan release.
I also dont think a new MDX will be released this year. They just introduced the A Spec. I would assume they want this model to be out for a couple of years before redesign it right?
I’m thinking:
2020 TLX and MDX
2019 the “sportiest sedan” (bye bye RLX?)

Maybe someone at Acura decided to bite the bullet, carry-over the mediocre TLX for one last year, to make sure that a half-baked redesigned TLX is not released early. Maybe they learned from the past?? We'll see.

To answer the title of the thread, yes, I am now having doubts about a new TLX in 2020.
#318
My thoughts exactly. The 2020 could be a short "placeholder" model year, with the 2021 coming next spring. It could be introduced at the NY Auto Show, and go on sale right around then. I know Honda is traditionally secretive until the last instant, but I'd like some info on the next TLX and, if it continues, ILX. My 2010 TSX is getting up there, and I want the modern safety tech. I'd hate to buy, say, a GTI, only to find out about an upcoming 2.0T/SH-AWD ILX. The Accord Sport is fantastic, but I want to go smaller, not larger.

Posted this in the wrong thread but maybe the site has issues>
Getting back to the original point of the thread which is Type S release date. It seems like most are going to mid to late 2020 for the release which is what I was told as well. The additional talk of a late this year 2nd gen TLX seems to be in doubt at well. Some say just some changes on the 4cyl model (A-Spec only with tech package). I do not see that happening. No way they only offer the lowest model with A-Spec and tech package standard and as options on the higher models, but that's just my opinion.
