3rd Time - Is this a lemon!!

I leased a 2018 TLX ASPEC in October of 2017. After one week, the car broke down (electrical system went crazy, all warning lights activated and car would start, but not go into gear). After a few days and multiple tow events, they fixed the car (battery fan fuse blew). Battery was checked and charged, so I was told all is well. Then, on August 14, 2018, the same thing happened. Two more days and more fuses fixed and I was told it was all good. Last night, same thing happens again. I've heard others on this thread with a similar issue, but never three times. I can't afford the inconvenience and luckily this has never happened too far from home.

What are my options?

Sounds like an electrical Lemon to me; I love my A-SPEC, & thankfully, no problems
If I had your aggravation, I'd call AcuraCare, & DEMAND, that a senior regional tech, inspect my vehicle
Also, if it happened 3 times, I'd try to enact the lemon law
Good luck!

Sounds like they are just replacing fuses & not whats causing them to blow. Electrical problems are a bi**h to find in some cases. Would give them another shot to respond with a senior Acura corporate tech, not a dealership guy & look to see what Lemon Law options are available

That's the worse part, I love my car and really like the dealership (very convenient). Second new car I've gotten from them and most likely would get third depending on this issue's handling.

After 3 times to protect yourself I would start the lemon law process at least to put Acura notice. Review the lemon law in your state and make sure you are adhering to the guidelines, this way if they fix the car great and if not you are not wasting your time and are already headed done the path for resolution.

Really strange. I'm thankful I don't have those issues. Definitely review the lemon law in your state. In Ohio, it's answering one of the following four questions in the first year or 18k miles, whichever comves first: 3 repair attempts for the same problem, cumulative 30 days in the shop in same timeframe, 8 or more attempts to fix different problems in that timeframe, and one attempt at fixing a problem that can cause harm/death. I suspect most states are similar.

Good luck OP!

PA laws are similar. The dealer has attempted two times, this will make the third. I will let the dealer know that they are on notice if it happens again. Again, really like the car but this issue can be inconvenient and potentially dangerous.

It looks like TX is actually 4 times. From their website "Four (4) times for the same defect(s) within the first two years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first". Any one else in TX that can chime in, please?. I will be submitting my claim but I only have 3 attempts for the same repair because on the 3rd try, dealership did nothing and said the car is "normal operations to vibrate". So therefore I can't make an appointment for the 4th attempt since they say there is no problem and it would just be wasting my time to go there and get turned away for service.

Lawyer UP. They are denying the 4th attempt to prevent a Lemon Law trigger from occurring. Have no idea whats "normal" for a TLX but if they made two attempts to fix it there must actually be an issue with your car. Otherwise why try a fix & not give you the "there all like that on visit one"?

Yes, I picked up the car after hours and was told that paperwork would be forwarded to me. This has never happened before. Upon hindsight, I should've walked out and kept the loaner. I've never not received paperwork.

Others that had similar issues (but I don't think exactly the same as yours) was caused by faulty rear wheel speed sensor. Did they check those?

Good luck with your repair.

IMO don't let the dealer know they are on notice in regards to lemon law, you will not gain anything by doing so. I have heard of cases where a customer advises the dealer of this and as soon as the dealer advises corporate of the customers intentions the dealer will be advised to no longer discuss anything with the customer. And from that point corporate will advise the dealer that all customer correspondence regarding the matter must be directed to corporate.. It is also safe to say that the dealer will no longer service the vehicle unless directed to do so by corporate..

In the meantime, even if they service your vehicle knowing your intentions they may be reluctant to give you paperwork to prove you were there. They will try to tell you that they didn't provide paperwork because since they couldn't duplicate the problem they couldn't attempt a fix. They do this as a way to try to get around the amount of fix attempts to file a lemon law claim. So keep your own record of date and time of who you spoke to and when you brought the car in for service.

If you decide to contact a lawyer he will contact corp in writing and from that point most of the communication will go through your lawyer and corp. Even when Acura requests "one last attempt" to correct the issue they will contact your lawyer who in turn will contact you in regards to setting up an appt.. Or tell you who to speak to at the dealer to schedule an appointment.

Good Luck.
