PMC is a pretty cool gimmick but I’m disappointed that Acura missed one last opportunity to make a higher power TLX. I mean if they’re gonna hand build it in their performance factory, at least hand build the engine to squeeze some extra power to give the J-Series one last hurrah before Acura goes turbo. Port and polishing with a nice tune can go a long way even if it only increases it by 10-20hp at least it’ll justify a 50K TLX.

I was watching this video of the NSX Andaro (sp?) paint process, when all of sudden a TLX comes down the paint line (around 6:20) getting this paint process. It ends up putting 17-19 mils of paint on the car, more than twice the thickness of a normal TLX paint job. I personally am not buying this $50K TLX, but between the $6K paint job and other options, $50K is not a bad price. They will sell every one of these.

The RLX version of the J35 make 310 HP & 272 lb-ft so Acura doesn't even need to do anything other than to plop that engine into the PMC TLX. But yeah, I agree that they missed an opportunity to do something special with the vehicle.

Maybe the RL version doesn’t bolt up with the ZF9 idk someone would have to confirm that. Would literally be the only explanation why Acura isn’t putting that engine into the TLX

Rather than trying to bolt the RL's J35 to the ZF9, adapting the RL's 10AT to the TLX would've been a better investment.

Then again, I'm sure all these scenarios were considered by the product planners, but in the end the bean counters still had their way

Maybe the 10 speed Auto will be in the next gen TLX, I have a feeling Acura has a contract with ZF to use the 9 speed in the current gen and it's just not worth ending it early when the new model is almost out.

Just had this horrible thought of Acura’s ZF9 contract extending through the next generation.

*Shudders*

Does anyone know how many 10ATs Honda is able to produce, say, in a month? If they're supply constrained, we could very well see the ZF9 continue in future products. But if that happens, the 10ATs should be given to Acura first, seeing that they are the premium brand and all. But hey, this is Honda we're talking about... the king of "mainstream gets all the cool shit first".

Can't put anything past them. You think they're going this way then they do a 180. They are cutting back on Accord production because of sales, maybe that means more 10AT's available. . . Ha and 6MT's. . .

What’s wrong with the previous 6 speed auto? Why do we need so many gears? I drove the 2019 TLX and the 9 speed was just too much shifting compared to my 2013 TL.

More gears = more MPGs, and 6 < 9 when it comes to marketing.

Yep, mpg is in the wheelhouse of the ZF9. Going from my old 14 Accord Sport CVT to my 16 3.5 PAWS (and later my 19 3.5 PAWS) hasn’t resulted in any hit to my fuel economy experiences.

Yeah I did notice the 2019 TLX having better mpg than my 4G TL. I’m not sure if the TLX has VCM but the econ mode was quickly switched to sport when I had the loaner.

Dear car gods, no, please don't let that happen! If some Honda bean counter suggests this IRL, may he/she be (verbally) flogged.

I dig it. I think I'll try and pick one up. A PMC Edition TLX is 10x more rare than an Integra Type-R. (360 units vs. 3,823 units).

To me that alone is kind of a cool ownership story. Regardless of the fact that it's on an old chassis, new model is pending, transmission is meh, etc.

I think it's a brave effort and instead of saying everything that's wrong with it, we should instead recognize some of Acura's positive momentum in delivering a car that combines the highest available options on every TLX ever, a badass color, and exclusivity of ownership.

Nah I would rather give them recognition when they give loyal consumers what they really want vs a $50K paint job.

The are a number of reasons for a car being rare. Being rare because they don't sell well is not a good one.

True! But being rare due to extremely low production is a good one.

Hello, While this post is old (almost a year) I have purchased # 273/360 cars for less that a 2021 TLX A Spec. We love it and though we've only had it two weeks, it is well worth what we paid for it. Trying to guess what and how the 2021 will perform may not be the best approach. ASs of this posting there has been a lot of issues with the new GEN 3. So my 2020 TLX PMC may not be the next gen model but it's a great car, we love it.

I came on to see if I could find other PMC owners in this forum. It has all the goodies plus some I didn't know about - automatic high beams is a nice feature. But you naysayers should go look at one before passing judgement on it. The 2021 ASpec will not come with the tech nor advance package like the PMC. So there is some added value there.

PMC Owner checking in

#268 checking in...

Bought mine in June 2020, only 4000 miles so far. This is my daily, but since COVID has kept me home teleworking, I have not needed to commute much, and 2k of that 4k are fun miles carving on back roads.

I was a previous 2015 TLX V6 Advanced owner which was traded in for the PMC, and I can attest that the 2015 and 2020 are different cars in many good ways, and in no bad ways.

So far, I have only modded with an Idlestopper, and a VCMTuner II (which was just recently removed after getting a KTuner and turning off VCM with that)

I highly recommend both of these mods for the TLX at a minimum, or the KTuner in place of the VCMTuner if you have the money to spend.

I personally think its a great looking car Paint is really gorgeous and with all accessories that is out there for that model you'll have it and on top rare too as only 360 of them has been made. I wish when I purchase mine in 06/29/2019 the aspec sh-awd, if PMC was out at that time I would have purchase that. But any way I love mine and enjoying driving it so no regrets there.

This car is drop dead georgeous. If you have never seen one in person, you cannot completely understand.

That being said -- would you buy one if the price was $42k?

I would have 8 - 12 months ago but at this point, I would prefer a car with the newer technology. But I do think it's a beautiful car.

Saw one on the road today, under natural sunlight for the first time, my goodness, what a color.

That being said, I think I actually would pay $42k for it. I think the exclusivity of it is worth the price. I think it does enough to differentiate itself among the lineup as a cross between the A-spec and Advance, with a stunning paint job. On top of that, it's hand built in the same factory as the NSX AND it's limited production, that is what makes it more than just a TLX. This is essentially the Honda s2000 CR for us TLX guys, and it really is something special that can only be appreciated among car enthusiasts.
