2019 TLX A-Spec damaged by tinters
I’m not going to name the shop but I have these white spots on my dashboard and doors which won’t go away. They’ve tried to remove them but failed and I had a high end detailed look at them and they can’t be removed. What the hell could they have used to screw up a car with 400 miles on it just by tinting the windows?
I am going to speak with the manager tomorrow but needless to say im holding them responsible for the damage and any cost incurred fixing it. Plus demanding a refund on the tints if it indeed needs to be repaired.
These spots are more noticeable in person but you can see them here.

i wish I had talked to the guy who does any PDR work I need on my car beforehand. When I contacted him about a good detailer to try and fix this mess he told me this tint shop has gone severely down hill over the years and many of his clients have issues now.

cant get it out because of the textured plastic. if it was smooth, perhaps rubbing it out (heh) would work...
But since it's textured, the liquid has settled into the grooves and dried there..
Perhaps you can take a drill and an interior drill brush to brush out the product from the tiny crevices. but check with the detailer.... as he might have the drill and drill brush...and would have experience with how much pressure to remove the stain without fuckin' up the textured plastic

Its too too bad this shop went downhill. Even some of the tint is hazy looking weeks later. Just a bad shop now. 😫
Appreciate any ideas offered here. 😎
Heres the car though. 🤓

I believe the haziness will start to disappear with more time in the sun.
I had a ceramic tint installed and it took almost a month or more to fully "cure"
Car looks GREAT! always love a grey!
Too bad the interior is where you spend most of your time and your eyes will always be drawn to those drip spots, which I understand it's a brand new car...
Always remember tho; it's just a car. there are far more important things to stress about than a few stains...but I understand it's a brand new car.

I’ve had several people tell me it looks as if the dashboard was bleached by an ammonia based cleaner due to the lighter color of the stains. Obviously I can’t confirm this but I’m sure an interior specialist could confirm if this is true once I take it in.

thanks. ☺️
The tint shop wanted their mobile interior person to look at it. I guess she works with a lot of dealerships in the area. It looks better but I wouldn’t say perfect as some spots further down towards the driver wide were missed but I don’t blame her as it was sunny and they’re more difficult to see in the sun.
I asked what was wrong and they told me there was soap that soaked into and dried into the dash. She had to clean it out and than dye the area to factory spec and add a sealant. The shop tried to play it off as “see it wasn’t damaged but I’d say once you have to dye it one must know it’s damaged.
We shall see how it turns out overall though.

Glad you seem to have it resolved and hope it remains a long term fix.

Im not sure how I feel about needing the dashboard on a brand new car dyed though... but then again I’m even less crazy about the idea of tearing it apart as the extreme.

If it covers it up perfectly im okay with it. I am just saying if by doing so I see discoloration I’m not gonna accept it. 🙃
Also, I have 303. Didn’t work. Lol. I’ll use it once I can again but they said 10 days to let it cure.

Living with it isnt an option. I spent too much on the car to have it stained by a tint shop with under 300 miles on the odometer. I’m not thrilled to have it dyed either and if there are any imperfections I’ll deal with them on that. Afterall, I paid to have the windows tinted. Not to have my dashboard ruined at a large cost. Worst yet is the dashboard is something I see every day so it’s not like I can ignore it on the daily.
Maybe we we look at things differently. I just can’t look at a dashboard being stained as acceptable. Not that I find dying it acceptable but it’s better I guess. Hopefully when it’s all said and done it looks factory spec. Otherwise, I have a decision to make.

Again, to each their own on whether making this disappear is important or not. 😃

FWIW I would not screw with it till the issue is resolved one way or another with the tinter. You touch it you own it if things get nasty.

oh no doubt. I’m not touching it at all right now. Honestly with them dying it already the brush wouldn’t help anyway in that area. Other areas maybe but not gonna try at this point.

[QUOTE=KrylonBlue;16413513]That actually make sense to me. The detailer tried doing what they could but there isn’t much else they can do. The next stop is an interior expert to see if they can clean those spots out of the texture.

Life's too short to worry about a few stains that probably only you know are there. You can also make them look worse sometimes by messing with the original factory finish. It's just a car at the end of the day man. You still have a nicer car than many others. Car looks great BTW.

Krylon - you may want to think about updating your Avi..........
Love your car and it's the combination I would be looking at if I were in the market. Nothing wrong with my TL-S and waiting on when and if the TLX is available as a Type S.

Man that car looks sweet! Nicest looking TLX I've seen.
Quite a bummer about the dash, I hate reading/hearing about stuff like this. I can somewhat relate, back in 07 I took my Wife's brand new fully-loaded Honda Pilot to get a 3M Clear Bra installed. They kept it over night in the garage and then had it sitting out in the parking lot until it was time to work on it. Well, a yard crew came and mowed the lawn; they ran into the freaking side of the bumper and scratched it all up. The Pilot had 75 miles on it; I was FURIOUS! They did a pretty good job fixing it, and I finally got over it. Time helps... So, in a few years you should be all set. ;-)

Even with the issues, your car is looking good with the tint, and with that paint color.

Also, yes, I do need to update my avatar. The TSX was great but this car is in a whole different league.
thank you 😎

Thank you. This color combination with the red seats is great. I ordered my Red Chicago Blackhawks license plates so once those come in it’ll look even sicker.

Trust me I’m fully aware of the possibilities of making it look worse. If I had created those stains I would have lived with them but seeing as someone else did them while performing a service I paid for I figure I may as well go for perfection. What’s the worst that can happen anyway? They fail to fix it and I hit them for a brand new dashboard at my rather awesome Acura dealership? I trust them if it comes down to it and I’m really cool with the service manager there. If they create any damage fixing it they always back it no questions asked. 😎

They tried to blend it a second time but it looks worse which was expected. I already informed them that their fix actually made it worse and that a new dashboard was the only option. They want me to wait the 10 days for the dye to cure but we’re already 8 days in and it hasn’t changed (obviously). I’ll know more regarding if they’ll be easy to deal with or not soon but by the sounds of it they won’t be battling me. Kind of hard to battle me when my damage photos pre-fix attempt and post look worse now.
On a a side note, we got golf ball sized hail Monday and my car took a beating. I can see at least 10 dents all over the car but I won’t know an exact count until my PDR guy writes up an estimate and submits it to my insurance. Poor car, 2 months on hail strikes. But that’s life, no sense in freaking out. Fix it and move on!
The image with the blue circle is after the first “fix”. The second image, without the blue, is the second fix. I think it’s fairly obvious that there’s matching issues.

You may have new rattles and noises after a new dash. Sometimes you're better off leaving things alone. The tint shop should refund in full for the tint job which they probably did, and also give you a check for the inconvenience that you can do whatever with. There are dash covers you can buy.

As for the tint shop, they didn’t refund the tint job. You’d think they would offer it but when I asked they said mistakes happen and they’re doing me goodwill by paying to have Acura replace the dashboard. I don’t have the energy to battle them on this so I’m taking my victories as they come. That’s if you can even call this a victory due to the risks that exist.
I don’t even want to stress over this anymore. I just want it made right.
