2019 TLX changes -to dealers 4/4/18

It looks like we will have to wait for the gen 2 TLX for the 3.0L V6 TT. That's the car I want.
If the 2018 Accord Sport is any indication the gen 2 TLX just might get a 6MT with the same 2.0T engine that's in the Accord and RDX.

I think Honda will do the same if other luxury brands go with twin turbo 6 cylinder. It just doesn't make sense to develop a new engine that's going to be less powerful than what the competition offer at the moment.
Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Infiniti and even Lexus all have a twin turbo 6 cylinder in their line up for the higher trims.
Just imagine 400hp and 400 ft/lb with SH-AWD (even 350/350 would be a huge improvement over the the current TLX)

Temple of VTEC Rumors and News - New Honda DOHC V6 Patent reveals some details on the successor to the J-series V6. Also, I keep hearing about a Twin Turbo V6. Honda has never said the word "twin". Only Turbo V6.

I'm still hoping for at least 400hp, but won't hold my breath. They might try to get away with 350hp but still out perform the C43 they appeared to be testing with that mule a few weeks back.

If Acura had gone with 8-speed ZF like most of the other manufacturers, the TLX V6 would have been a much better car.
#53
8zf would need longitudinal layout.. Not sure whether Acura will go for that for future sedans? I have doubts...I think they just thought 9zf will be equally good and were caught off guard...
#54
I’m gonna put my money on somewhere between 315 and 340, since displacement is bumping down to 3 liters.

Infiniti, Lincoln, Mercedes, Audi and BMW all get more than 350hp out of their twin turbo 3.0L 6 cylinders.
I'm really hoping Honda can step up their game and join the ranks.
When I bought my Gen2 TSX I should have spent the extra $5000 and gotten a TL. The 4 banger just didn't have enough power. The next time I buy an Acura I will make sure I get more than enough power

I went from a 2004 TL with over 250 HP ( I think it was 270 ish?) to the 4 banger TSX. It took me a long time to get used to the 201 HP. I didn't like the new TL's and that was the reason I didn't buy. Anything around 250-270 HP would be fine with me and how I drive. Plus additional torque doesn't hurt.

While it’ll probably have a decent torque band and respectable acceleration, I suspect peak horsepower to be at fairly conservative levels.
#60
That 2.0T motor makes 306hp in the Type R and I think Hondata got 270hp from the Accord on their dyno with 91 Octane gas. I’m very optimistic that the 3.0TT V6 will make more than 350hp closer to 400hp.
#61
That's in a tuned state though. I"m sure we can agree that the V6T (not confirmed TT) can get to 350-400hp with a tune. We've been debating stock from the factory hp numbers since not everyone will pay for a Hondata tune or expect Acura to milk every hp out of the V6T like Honda does with the Type R.

Sorry I got my sources mixed yup last night.
The 2.0T in the RDX makes 272hp and 280 ft/lb of torque using premium fuel. Those numbers are factory numbers provided by Acura not Hondata numbers. I think this is a pretty good indicator what the next gen TLX will get.

Something to keep in mind is that Type S model Acuras historically have not been substantially more powerful than non-Type S models, and only marginally better performers at that. So, I’m expecting the S model to have 50-60 more horsepower than the non-S model. So if the RDX 2.0T is in a base level TLX...

I like the new wheels. They look almost identical to the BMW 330/340 M Sport package wheels which I have always liked. 40 series tires makes me cringe since I'm still recovering from my own pothole experience here in NJ with 50 series.
I am disappointed there are no powertrain changes. Not even the 10spd trans mated to the existing 3.5L? I didn't think that would take much as I thought the Odyssey got that combo already.

Yup, I hope they buck that trend though. This new V6T engine has 50% more (is my math right?) displacement than the "base" 2.0T (can't see them using the 1.5T). On paper that does seem like more than 350+hp, but again I'm not holding my breath. I'm thinking the S4 and C43 are possible benchmark targets which means 354hp and 362hp goals respectively. Come on Acura, prove us all wrong and blow us away with 400hp!

You are thinking exactly what I'm thinking. The S4/C43 will be excellent benchmarks.
If there is no replacement for the ILX then I can see a tuned up 1.5T engine as the base engine (kinda like the 320i) for those that value MPG, tech and luxury features over performance.
The V6T or V6TT will need to produce at least 350hp to be competitive and also to give the buyers enough reason to upgrade. The Germans offer significantly more performance with their upgraded engines. You get more than 100hp increase compared to the base engine when you go from the A4/C300 to the S4/C43.

3.5 hp
So, that makes your statement totally false. The MDX is 290...but, again could easily be 310 or more...IF that is what they wanted to do with the MDX. That 3.5 is very capable and strong.
Just because the "numbers" of HP ratings are less than 300 doesn't mean that is the "MAX" HP they
are able to get. Again, it's what the engineers did based on what the "brass" wanted and it's largely dictated by fuel mileage and meeting CAFE standards.
And I mean a 3.5 that is naturally aspirated...NA. No turbos, etc. If there were NO CAFE standards to worry about I know Honda Motor Corp can get well over 300 hp out of the 3.5.

i am not familiar with the S55, but the B58 is definitely not a twin turbo, which is why i asked

Not to interrupt the turbo discussion, I just noticed that unlike the 2018 TLX, there is not a 2.4 Elite or 2.4 Elite ASpec for the 2019 Canadian version, just base, Tech, and Tech ASpec. The 2019 3.5 SH-AWD still has the five versions - base, Tech, Tech ASpec, Elite, and Elite ASpec. Kinda sad for us 2.4 fans.

DynoJet WHP numbers can be multiplied by 15% to get estimated power at the crankshaft.
BMW is infamous for playing games with their published power numbers. These are all B58 Twin Scroll factory stock rated numbers & DynoJet rear wheel dyno numbers.
Base B58 in the 340/440 is rated at 320BHP Dynos at 331WHP, The 340/440 MPPSK option is rated at 355BHP & Dynos at 369WHP. The M240 is rated at 335BHP Dynos at 262WHP The M140i is rated by BMW at 340 BHP Dynos at 368WHP. The M2 is rated at 370BHP Dynos at 376WHP.
This is a Double overhead camshaft 24 valve inline 6 cylinder 3.0 liter engine. The numbers are typical of slightly different tunes giving different power figures. Depending on what they decide Honda can give the TLX 300 to 450WHP without much risk of catastrophic engine failure in a 3.0L DOHC engine.
Its all about marketing once you build these types of motors.
