2015 Bellanova White/Espresso TLX V6 - Tint Opinions
Just picked up my new TLX.....need opinions on whether to go 35% tint on the doors and 20% on the rear window, or 20% rear door and window and 35% front windows. I live in NY, so pretty much any tint is illegal. In the past, I usually get black interior on my TL's and go 20% all around. First time with a different color interior. Any opinions appreciated....thanks

Same here! I actually started a thread on tint for white on black TLX. I'm used to 20% but i don't want to have a super dark tint contrasting on a white car.

I had 20% before on a white TL but with black interior.....I used to get compliments. Now just thinking how 35% would stand out with the espresso interior.

I've always done 20% all around, thinking of going a little lighter next time, sometimes I think 40-50% looks kinda classy, doesn't scream I'm up to no good like dark tint can.

I found a place that use Heuber optic tint, almost went with the ceramic tent but I could not wrap my head around what color it would be so I went with the professional that's black. I just ordered my chrome door trim and all weather mats - so I can't wait till that's on the car!!! The tenant laws in Louisiana suck I want to say I went with 40 on the front and 30 on the back.

I dunno if you've ever been pulled over for tint but it's not a fun hassle to deal with. I'd say make a wise choice about the tint. I'm surprised if you've been doing 20% on a black interior and you haven't been pulled over for it. For sure lots of cars in Elmont have tint, I am in the area all the time. Nassau county definitely looks out for this, ask me how I know. I'm out of state so I get away with it. Ordinarily if you have 35% they will go after it if they are bored. If you have 20% or less you are asking for it.
If it were me I'd do 50% sides and 35% on the back. I know that is not dark at all but you will have UV protection, the car will stay cool and it does offer some level of privacy. Yeah it's still not legal but most likely cops won't even notice. If you get pulled over for speeding or something always roll your window all the way down.

Personally I want a tint that is effective at a slightly lighter shade. So I'll go with 40% 3M Crystalline all around. I'm actually going to put that on my wife's car when she gets it in a month or so, so I'm using hers as a guinea pig.
I really don't care for ultra dark tint but I need the heat rejection. It is pricey though.

I have 50% crystalline all around with 70% on my windshield. For me, 40% was a little to dark since the crystalline gives a different color/reflection then normal tint. Also, 40% you get more of a bronze color with the crystalline tint.

I wanted 50% but the shop I'm going to doesn't stock it. Only 40 or 70. Odds are I'll go with the 70 because I like a near factory look.

I haven't tinted the windshield yet but if I do...it'll be 70%.

Unfortunately not (I asked, but they said no). Kind of sucks, but they're very highly rated, certified by 3M, and a good friend of mine got his BMW done there and raved about them, so I might just have to suck it up.
Beats getting the slightly darker film and chancing a subpar installation.

20% all around in the same color combo as you. Works great in the TX heat.

I have a pic on my phone of just the front window done. The tint shop ran out of film and I had to go back to get the rear done.
I put SunTek CXP 80 on the windshield and it is a very grainy film. Not so crazy about this tint but it gives me good heat rejection in a light film.

I just went by my local shop and they put a piece of 40% and 70% on the same window and the 40% came out the winner.
70% was basically clear and the 40% was just dark enough without looking tacky.
Getting it done next Friday ($429) and will be sure to post pictures.

Heat rejection is not necessarily a function of how dark the tint is (lower percentage VLT) but how the tint is manufactured.
Are you interested in heat rejection and UV protection, or privacy, or a bit of both? And what is the legal limit in your state? That should determine your choices. A darker tint may look cool, but depending on the brand, it can severely reduce your visibility at night.
I wasn't interested in privacy, and thus a dark a tint so went with 70% Huper Optik Ceramic. It offers 99% UV light rejection and 48% total solar heat rejection. It actually performs better than some of its tints with a lower VLT.
For those who run on illegal tints and a windshield tint, I would only caution this: if you are in an accident and it's determined your car has illegal tints, your insurance company could deny your claim, and you may open yourself to claims and/or lawsuits from the other parties involved.

its more about product , price you want to pay and look
some options for you
3m color stable is a non ceramic film average 250$ installed and 35% is a great tint not too dark but dark enough for heat gen, remember you have a dark interior so if you went to 20% it will look darker with dark interior
my fav tint is ceramic tint. if you can find a formula 1 pinnacle tint shop they have a 35% and a 40% tint that for around 300 $ is much better in heat rejection and look over most films.
just my two cents there are 1000 opinions on this the poster that have crystalline is a great film but ridiculous expensive 500$ i actually had my camry done for free with the 40% and it looks great for clarity but not dark enough the pinnacle will look darker in a 40% tint and will be half the price good luck
