You just opened a can of worms. This topic is either going to be 2 pages or 500 pages... with numerous people banned from heated debates, insult sor religious beliefs.

BTW, I'm pro choice. Those who say pro-life can donate money to those who cannot afford to have a baby. Paypal me

Pro-choice, but actually I should have voted depends... and these days I'm leaning closer to Pro-life... but I think that just goes to show me how much your own situation can skew your perspective. I don't think it's my right or anyone elses to decide for another.

I completely agree that each situation is unique. It's really nobody's business what you choose, but that's when I start to get annoyed - when people tell me that I have no right to chose for the child (those pro-lifers)...and then we argue about situations and all that and it gets real messy...

I'm pro-choice to a point. I think mostly, you should always have a choice. However women that use abortion as a form of birth control, need to re-think their extra-curricular activities.

I think that birth control should be more readily available, esp. to those in urban, low income areas...I don't believe abortion should me used as a means to correct a "mistake."

Birth control pills from Planned Parenthood are less than $10 a month.

Post #5 and #6 hit the point of this thread

No one should be able to tell you, your gf/wife/sister/female friend what to do. Here are 3 examples to why pro-lifers should leave the decision ultimately to the pregnant woman and nobody else.
A) a 17 year old girl who realized she's pregnant. She wants an abortion, she goes to the abortion center and realized a bunch of Pro-Lifers holding signs and yelling out names as she passes by. She feels terrible but her financial situation nor her current stage of life is able to really support this child. If she decides to have the abortion, it'll cost her a few thousands now and call it a mistake. Or she could have the baby months later and face all sorts of problems.

B) a girl who gets raped, find out she's pregnant...... need I say more? Should Pro-Lifers or Religious folks urge her to have the baby because God planned this?

C) A couple who has been dating for 4 years and are both 27 years old. They have been living together for the past 3 years and both are medical students. The couple found out they are pregant and abortion came to mind since they are still in medical school. They have 2 more years left of residency and cannot afford to have any distraction. They both love each other dearly and eventually they want a baby, what should they do?

So if two people make a "mistake" when they're still teenagers, that child should be born into a life where neither parent is financially or emotionally ready for a child?

Just for the record, an abortion won't run you that much. Maybe about $300-350. I do agree with what you said though.

I wished someone would tell that to some of the women I teach at John Jay. I swear I had a girl in my class that was less than 22 with 3 kids and one on the way. She had to bring them to school one day and they all looked totally different. I'm pretty sure they all had different dads. She came to me one day complaining about not getting a good grade in classes and having no time to study because of her kids. And not 20 minutes later I over hear her telling one of the other girls in class that she can't wait to hit the clubs that weekend....5 MONTHS PREGNANT!!!

That's if you catch it early on though - things get a little more complicated and expensive after the first trimester...

They can give the baby up for adoption, or they can own up to their mistake and take care of it. The point being, there are other options.

That's also a wonderful life for a baby. Living in an orphanage of sorts, foster care, etc.

Does anyone know any statistics about how many children get adopted vs. how long they wait, things like that?

As far as taking care of it - the problem is that they are not ready for a child. Is it right to bring a child into a broken home? One where he/she is born into a disadvantaged situation?

I'm not completely pro-life, and I feel that people should have choices...but, I also believe that there are numerous ways to prevent "accidently" getting pregnant. Condoms, the pill, morning after pill, etc. I don't believe abortion should be used for people that are morons & not using protection thinking that they are invincible and won't get pregnant.

Most people want to adopt babies. It's the older ones that have a harder time getting adopted.

I don't know for sure... but I'd guess that these days it's almost guaranteed that a healthy newborn American baby would have NO TROUBLE AT ALL being placed with a quality couple.

Also, third term abortions are disgusting in nearly all circumstances short of the womans life being in danger. Make up your mind while its still a pin head in your belly, not in human form with arms and legs, and a brain.

These are all pretty much all are available for free. However getting the person to use them is a whole different story.

I've also heard stories of parents taking prophylactics away from their kids because they don't want them having sex.

Well then there comes in the argument of when a baby actually becomes a baby - when it's born? or beforehand?

I am against women using abortion as a means of birth control, but on the other hand, the if the mother is running around getting knocked up all the time, then the baby shouldn't be born. If i found out i was pregnant right now, I would be at the clinic getting it sucked out, no questions asked.

Then you should be more careful about getting pregnant so that the babies don't have to die for your mistake

pro-choice.....and pray to god i willl never be in that position...

I haven't the slightest clue what i would choose, or how i would feel....but i want all the options...

you just don't know until it happens to you. I've had friends from both sides of the spectrum make radical changes once it was actually them who was knocked up.

One friend was completely pro-abortion, totally against adoption, and was in the worst financial trouble of her life....then it was her in the shoes and she kept her baby..

Then there was one *acquaintance* (i didn't really like her) who was always screaming "OMG!!! THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!!!!!ANYBODY WHO EVEN CONSIDERS IT SHOULD BE CRUCIFIED PUBLICY!!!"

guess what? oh, and she had parents that probably still wiped her ass for her, they probably would've raised the baby and not even dared to ask her baby-sit...

until men and women can share 50/50 the responsibility and consequences (and of course they probably never will), i would think that's a pretty inflammatory statement...

I'm not following what you are saying, the responsibility and consequences of what?

Unless a woman was raped or there was a faulty birth control, it was completely her choice whether or not to get pregnant or not.

Ironically enough, the woman has the option of not letting him put his thingy inside her (again, discounting rape)

Well that's something I think everyone would agree on - the guy should definitely step the fuck up, no matter what the woman chooses.

It's also difficult when the two disagree on the matter. It seems to me that the majority of guys I know would definitely want to go for the abortion, but women are often stuck in limbo with the choice.

I also agree with Andrea25 that you can't really know until it actually happens to you. People say a lot of things until some one night stand calls them up n tells em they're pregnant - oh shit!

There are so many ways of preventing an unwanted pregnancy...an abortion should really only be used as a last resort.

Healthy white baby can go for tens of thousands on the grey market. Abortion is just wasteful.
