Are TPMS self learning?

Hi everyone,

Sorry for the dumb question but I am hoping that the folks who perform their own tire rotation/swap can help me. I am considering investing in getting the tools to do my own tire rotation and/or swapping my 4 season tires with rims with the winter sets (and rims with built in TPMS). My question is the following, are Acura's sensor self learning or do one have to make the sensors get reprogrammed when you swap them from one location to the next. I heard that some brand, you have to do some special sequence to get the TPMS to recognize its new position on the vehicle.

I would appreciate any input....Also, I assume it would be the same on my 2013 RDX as well.

There are no special tools, programing or self-learning going on. I have two sets of rims/TPMS like you are considering and when I swap them, they read 58 at all four corners, but synch up within a couple of miles of driving.

^^^ I appreciate the quick response. I was hoping that these would automatically sync up and that is what I thought, but wanted to make sure. I remember bringing my car to a VW for a tire rotation one day (local Honda dealer was full) and all they did was swap, drop and drive off. I watched do the whole job and had not seen any special procedure to get the TPMS sync up, and you confirmed this. I appreciate it very much!

No problem. To be honest when I had the second set of TPMS installed on my A-Spec rims (2004 rims and 2004 TL did not have TPMS - now have a 2008 needs them), I used an independent shop and the mechanic told me that some TPMS systems do require reprograming and are a major pain in the ass. Not so with Honda / Acura.

The Honda/Acura TPMS sensors are basically dumb transmitters. Each one simply continuously sends out the detected tire pressure value.

There is one TPMS receiver located at each corner of the car. Each of the four receivers receive the corresponding tire pressure value from it's respective corner of the car.

That's why no programming and no ID syncing are necessary.

No special step is necessary when changing wheels equipped with TPMS. Just do it as if there is no TPMS.

After swapping wheels, the correct tire pressure readings will show up in the MID after 10-15 mins of normal driving.
