TPMS Problem
TPMS Problem
I have just removed the factory 19" HPT's and installed Michelin Winters that are mounted on factory 17" wheels. (2010 TL) This is the 3rd year the winters have been installed and I've never had an issue with the TPMS. After switching the wheels I usually drive it a few blocks and it has always reset the TPMS. But this year only one wheel was found, the rest stayed blank. I thought the next day a longer drive would solve it but now none of the wheels are found and there is a TPMS Error. I thought there was something in the manual but I can't find it. Has anyone had a similiar problem, or a solution.
Thanks in advance,
Rob

could be bad sensors? i had a lotta issues with my tpms my first winter, but it ended up being a bad pin somewhere. took my dealer over 6 months to fix it, because the issue was intermittent.
My only suggestion is to take it to the dealer. there isnt much you can do, not like you can reset the tmps system.

I have the exact same problem with my sensors. I put on my winter tires 3 weeks ago (this will be winter #3 with these tires) and I got the message "check TPMS system" I brought it to the dealer and they tested all 4 tires, and they all failed.
I got the wheels and tires from www.tirerack.com and their warranty is only good for 1 year. So, for me to replace all of the sensors and the labour involved, I'll just get used to having the message come pop up every time I start the car, than fork out a few hundred bones for new sensors....

A depleted battery can’t be exchanged, so the entire sensor must be replaced.
The potting material inside the sensor housing secures the electronic components and protects them from the harsh environment inside a tire. “In order to remove a battery, the potting material would need to be melted. Heating the material could damage components and allow the battery’s lithium to seep out of its housing and into the environment.”

Not with you VSA on.
It doesn't take much for the TPMS sensors to fail. My sister had problems with hers as well on her Infiniti G37X. She had to have them replaced. They need to make them less expensive. I think they will over time just like everything else.
So you don't loose control of the car in a hard turn, or swerving, the VSA will cut power or brake. In this way, its a good thing. However in my Miata, its not so good since its highly modified and can do more in it, then the car was designed for. In the wrong hands, you can get into trouble in my Miata. Plus to keep you from losing control its very sensitive. Less so in the TL, but you can't do the things in the TL I can with the Miata.
I rarely turn it off, but i have.
If you ever get stuck, it'll be easier to get unstuck with VSA off.
And any car with vsa on will stop you from being able to power out of a turn if you start to understeer. It won't let you. You can go sideways into a curb and really mess things up if that happens.
You also can't do parking lot donuts in the snow with vsa on
lol
