Lightbulb Shocks & Struts recommendations?

Hey guys the shocks and struts on my TL are going bad, on hard breaks the car feels bouncy. Technician said my rear shock is near the end of life 97k miles. What do you guys recommend that's not too pricey?

Buy a set from an Acura dealer.

Curryacuraparts.com has been working well for me. There are tons of other dealer site options.

Koni yellows may also be a good choice...but I would probably opt for a factory replacement.

KYB might make something if you're on a budget. They'll work fine too. Look on rockauto

I need new struts. How do I figure out which is the correct strut for the 4g 6MT TL with Sh-AWD? My understanding is the 6MT has firmer struts than the FWD, but are they the same struts as the SH-AWD with auto?

6MTs have different front struts but identical rear struts to auto.

6MT = Shock Absorber Unit, R Front - Acura (51611-TK5-A52)
6MT = Shock Absorber Unit, L Front - Acura (51621-TK5-A52)

Auto = Shock Absorber Unit, R Front - Acura (51611-TK5-A03)
Auto = Shock Absorber Unit, L Front - Acura (51621-TK5-A03)

Either = Shock Absorber Unit, Rear - Acura (52611-TK5-A03)

Note that for some reason, all of the online Acura parts websites say that the Left Rear SH-AWD strut has been discontinued. I can't vouch for whether the remaining rear strut is symmetric and fits on both sides, so if you're going to order OEM rears, I'd probably call a dealership parts counter to double check.

And as far as how to figure out which struts were the 6MT version, when you pull up the part listing and look at the Vehicle Fitment list, the "-A52" part numbers fit on 2010-2014 SH-AWDs and the "-A03" part numbers fit on 2009-2014. 6MTs weren't made in 2009, so "-A03"s wouldn't be right.

Well, my mechanic was able to source a complete set, however, curry acura told me that they have stopped making the rear struts, which doesn't make sense to me, since they are the same for the auto and the 6MT (a much rarer model.)

car has been out of production for nearly 7 years now so automakers are not legally obligated to provide parts.... it really sucks so support your right to repair!

Update, my mechanic replaced all four springs and struts as well as the complete assembly, Car is transformed. It sits about 3/4 of an inch higher than it did, and rides like a new car.
Steering lost a lot of slack.

Although some of the complete strut/spring assemblies are discontinued, I was able to purchase all strut/spring parts for my 2012 TL Base "piece-meal" online from Bernardi Acura of Boston. Parts are sitting in my basement awaiting installation.

Free shipping as well since I spent way over $75.

Definitely worth checking out...

Good luck!

Hi everyone! I have 155k miles on my SH-AWD 6MT. I THINK the suspension is all original and I know nothing's been done to it in the last 4 years/80k miles. Honestly, the ride feels sorta-OK, perhaps a little harsh, but I'm sure it's diminished over time and I just haven't noticed.

I think I'm going to land on a Tein Street Advance setup. I won't be installing myself, but I have a shop that will let me bring parts to them. My question is: is there anything that doesn't come in the kit that I should order for the shop (please don't flame me, I just don't know what I'm talking about).... top hats? Bushings? Etc etc?

Bonus if you know some parts numbers! Here are front/rear links for the stock parts:
Front strut: https://acura.bernardiparts.com/Acur...&assembly=6459
Front assembly: https://acura.bernardiparts.com/Acur...&assembly=6458
Rear strut: https://acura.bernardiparts.com/Acur...&assembly=6461
Rear assembly: https://acura.bernardiparts.com/Acur...&assembly=6460

Thanks, in advance, for helping someone naive!

You need a complete set of OEM tophats with bushings and also a bumpstop washer.

See if you can find a Tein PDF of the Street Advance owner's manual. It will tell you if I missed anything.

Or...just take all that stuff off your stock shocks. You won't need anything additional if you plan to use parts from the stock setup.

Update-Finally got around to having the strut/spring assemblies and sway bar links installed. At 85k miles, the car has been transformed (as another member mentioned). All I can say is wow, feels like-new again. Don't forget to get a 4 wheel alignment after replacing suspension parts. Incredibly happy with my the way my 2012 TL feels again.

Good luck!

We are in bad luck, Acura no longer has my 2013 TL Advance FWD shocks in stock, backordered and likely never coming back.

I want an OEM suspension but not gonna happen. What brands do you recommend based on your shocks you’ve used on the Acura TL?

Any help would really be appreciated.

Koni yellows when adjusted toward the softer side ride very comparably to stock.

Not sure if all these exist for your platform, but worth looking into. They are the aftermarket options I have personally experienced to work well.

-KYB
-Koni
-Tein Endurapro Plus
-Bilstein B6 (expect a more harsh ride quality though)

you wont find full assemblies unless you go coilovers. Even OEM assemblies are discontinued so you’ll just need to buy struts if you want to avoid coils. Stay away from Moog or Monroe, those are trash assemblies
