Coilover installation today

Good morning guys and gals,
I'm getting the coilovers installed this afternoon.
Just wondering if anyone had any recomendations on things to look for after the install?
Should I get the alignment done after they set the height or after I put my new 20's on?
I was thinking on telling them to leave them at the highest setting since i'm not exactly sure how much room I will need for the new wheels on Monday. I plan on rolling the fenders this weekend.
Can't wait to post pics!!!

Thanks peeps.

It's always a good thing to get an alignment after making changes to suspension, however, if you're putting on the 20's very soon you could possible getting away with holding off for a few days.

Alignment should be done , but I would wait until the suspense settle add the 20s then do the alignment

if you get alignment done now but change height later; you will need alignment again.

so, you might as well wait til you have the 20s on and your final height adjustment is made....unless you have lifetime alignments

Not sure if you have a Firestone in your area but I would recommend purchasing the lifetime alignments. Comes in handy and it's around $200. You get your money back after 2 alignments. Enjoy your new ride!

Awesome!! I just looked at firestone. Lifetime Alignment, internet special is 169.00. Seeing as how the shop thats putting the coilovers on charges $75 buck a pop, i am definatley going to do this. Will they do the alignment with the aftermarket wheels?
I remember many years ago my local shop told me to put my factory wheels on for an alignment.
Thanks for the money saver CarbonTSEX!!

No problem. I had mine aligned with my 20's on because the fitment is a lot more aggressive then the stocks. So I get an alignment whenever I switch wheels.

Got my ride back this evening around 6. Love the lowered stance. Will post pics tomorrow.
The ride feels great but, it feels like a very soft ride, very mushy in the turns. I did ask the installer to raise it up as high as they go so when I put the 20's on I could lower it to my specifications. Also asked him to put the dampers to the middle setting #8. Can anybody elaborate on there damper settings?
Thanks guys

What suspension did you go with? If you stiffen it up it'll help with cornering. Height makes a difference too.

On my BC's I'm sitting at 8F 10R. Just gotta play around with it. Was running 8f and 14r. Car handles like a champ and I haven't adjusted it to full stiffness.

I have the TEIN SA and I went with 4F/6R so it's a little on the stiffer side.

Smile

Here are pics as promised.
I was able to adjust the fronts this morning to 4 which feels great, but I did not have time to pull the seat to adjust the rears. The guy who installed them just set front and rear at 8. I loved the OEM sport suspension, but these aftermarket coilovers blow the OE out of the water. Still has the sporty feel, but more of a softer sport feel/more comfortable.

Gonna roll the rear fenders Friday night and hopefully my wheels get here by the weekend!!

OP, I would check that your top-hat bolts are tight, and when/if you remove the rear seat (PIA) I would check those as well. I settled at 3F/6R, and I like it a lot. Looks like you are riding a little lower than I am, so you should check you camber, to see if you need to adjust. Also, with the SA if you change the ride height you change the pre-load at the same time.

Looks good.

Dampening setting will be different depending on the make. My BC racing has 30 levels of dampening where Tein SA have 16.

If you know how to work on cars I would do it myself anyway to save money. Plus it's more rewarding once complete. It's pretty straight forward.

yeah i've done the install before with basic springs and dampers a couple of times. it's not fun, but not too difficult. i've got a mechanic friend who is going to be helping me out. i might take pictures for a DIY since this forum is lacking one.

Looks good! A few questions:

- Is that the ride height at the highest setting on the coils? Looks like there is basically no gap between the fender and tire.
- With the Tein SA, how is the impact harshness? This is one of the things I dislike about the stock suspension that it "crashes" over bigger bumps or horizontal strips. I understand you can adjust the stiffness, so looking to understand how the initial impact harshness compares.

There's no way that's remotely close to the highest setting on those coilovers. The Tein SA has adjustability between 1 inch of lowering to 3 inches.

When you lower a car, you have to stiffen up the suspension otherwise you'd bottom out everywhere. I can't speak to the TL, but in my cars that have been lowered (KW-V3's on the S2000, Koni Yellow + GC on Accord) the impacts were the same or worse. You really can't hit the speed bumps/strips like you do with a stock car. That said, I don't really feel like the stock suspension "crashes" over them, maybe I'm misinterpreting the term you're using.
