Hey everyone,

Wondering if anyone else had this problem before. When my 2012 AWD starts up, it has a whining sound until the car warms up then seems to go away. The sound gets louder if I rev the car or start to drive.

It almost sound exactly like a failing a powering steering pump (I know our cars don't have this!)

Check your alternator. Take a big long flat head screwdriver, stick it on the body of the alternator, then put your ear against the handle. If it's the same whine you're hearing but amplified, it's the alternator.

 

Alternator would be my first thought as well.

 

Mine just started doing this, but it's been intermittent. I took a few video clips. Maybe i'll get a chance to post them tonight.
I'm also suspecting it's the alternator for mine.
