When I step on my brakes...

I have a 4th g TL at times when I step on my brake and then release it I hear a noise. Kind of like a little horn. It doesn't happen all the time. What can it be? I'm new with this help!

Yes, like a squeak. Brakes maybe I need to change? But my brakes feel fine. Would something be in the way?

when does this do this?

after the car has been sitting?
after the car has been sitting and you reverse?
on the freeway?
applying the brakes with light pressure?
applying the brakes with heavy pressure?

Im not 100% sure, the last time was I started the car. I warmed it up, drove three blocks to my destination. Then left it running, for ten minutes. About to take off and I put it in drive and I hear the noise.

my brakes do a similar thing ... its only in the morning, may just be some frost on ur rotors and when they heat up they should be good ... if not, how many miles are on ur brakes ... maybe time for some new pads?

I bought the car few months ago. Not sure when the previous owner changed it. How often should I change the brakes?

Where do you hear the noise, like where is it coming from? When you release the brake is it a sound inside the car, out side? Front, Rear, Left, Right?

Have your brakes check. They are probably worn and you are hearing the low brake pad sensor disengaging from the rotor.

i'm hearing the same noise from my '10. The brakes are fine but will have to see if the noise continues when it gets warmer. I recently purchased it last year towards the of November. I don't recall it making that noise at first, until the temperature had dropped. Perhaps it is the temperature that's contributing to the noise.

It could be a number of things.

Check your brake fluid should be clear and if it's old it'll turn brownish if so needs to get replaced.

Also might need new brake pads.

There is never an amount of time where you need a brake job. You need to change out the pads every once in a awhile unless you brake hard on your brakes a lot then your looking at a brake job every half a year or less that means new rotors and pads.

I suggest when buying a new car to ask when the last service for brakes was done and if it was a long time ago and the brakes feel like they need to be changed out I would go ahead with that.

That's one thing on a vehicle you don't fuck around with. Brakes, Tires and Fluids.
