Warranty almost up - maintenance yes or no.
Warranty almost up - maintenance yes or no.
I'm almost up on standard warranty. I have done all the maintenance work myself and things are going great. No problems so far.
However, I have read cases where someone brought their car in for maintenance service, and the tech found something else wrong, like a bad engine mount. Something that would have cost a lot of $$$ and the average guy, like me will not be able to spot. That's just an example. It was covered under warranty, so the owner was happy.
My question is, should I pay for this maintenance service so they will "look over" everything? I think it's like $500+. It may be more because they would add to the list with other services.
I could have them do an oil change, but I'm guessing they would just only do just that. If they don't happen to spot anything, they won't make the extra effort.
What do you guys think? $500 is a lot to take for things I can do myself for less than a $100 or even less.
But I can't spot the complicated stuff, and I would like to take care of it (if necessary) before the warranty runs out.

Just FYI warranty fixes involve a lot more paperwork for the stealership.
IMHO, paying $100 to a reputable independent mechanic for a once-over on the jacks before warranty is over is worth it. Make sure you take you camera with you so you can document problem areas.
