VSA and DTC P0306...Advice Please

I have a 2009 TL 3.5L, I just bought this car acouple days ago and it runs and drives beautiful,I’ve always wanted one so I pulled the trigger on this one.

So I get the VSA light, exclamation mark in the triangle, and a Check Engine Light P0306 (Cylinder 6 Mis Fire). This has happened twice and I’ve noticed when it happens the first time I started the car and it came on within a few seconds of it running and the second time it was when I started the car and took off right away within seconds it popped up. The car does nothing tho it runs and drives perfectly fine as if nothing happened or I have no codes. I get no misfire or hesitation or shaking nothing at all. I shut the car off and turn it back on and the VSA and Triangle go away but the CEL remains with no ill effect or drivability but with the scanner it’s picking up P0306. So I clear the codes and it happens again after acouple drives under 100miles I need to get this to go clear thru it’s drive cycle without this happening so I can pass and inspection and worry about this afterwards lol

Any advice will help please! I’m almost thinking of getting a new fresh battery for it. I’ve read that a low battery could cause an issue like this and have caused issues like this and I’m saying that before going for spark plugs or coil packs because I get no ill effects or drivability issues the car is defiantly not misfiring...Thank in advance!

check the voltage on the battery, then go from there

Voltage: 12.4 - 12.6v with engine off/no key
13.8 - 14.0v with engine running no lights or accessories on
Voltage seems within the limits they should be correct me if I'm wrong, so since I was throwing code P0306 (Cyl 6 Misfire) with the VSA and /!\ I went ahead and swapped the spark plug and coil pack from Cyl 6 into Cyl 5 see if the misfire jumps over to Cyl 5. I may add that when taking off the spark plug and coil pack on Cyl 6 I found it was a champion spark plug compared to the NGK and the rubber piece at the end of the coil pack stayed on the spark plug and it was a pain in the ass to get it out and the rubber is kind of chewed up so that in a way is reassuring that I probably found the culprit but I installed it anyway into Cyl 5 to see if it truly was before I think of doing a new spark plug and coil pack but currently I have no check engine light after about 15-20 miles of driving but its only happened before when I first started the car or took off right away almost like a cold start

So here we are again lol I had the same codes come up P0306 (Cyl 6 Misfire) along with the VSA even after I switched both spark plug and coil pack from Cyl 6 to Cyl 5 I’m still getting the same Cyl 6 misfire code it didn’t jump to Cyl 5 so it seem it’s not a bad coil or spark plug but the codes didn’t pop up right away it kicked on about 170 miles later on a cold start (35° night) since the switch of the coil pack and spark plug and codes reset, all my wires and connections seem intact. Should I try a new battery maybe my voltage is dropping enough to make it screwy, the battery came back good but it looks a little hurt maybe it can’t take the load. It’s all I can think of thats cheaper than another solution like maybe a valve adjustment. What other issues can cause this weird issue?

The P0306 code for Acura TL could possibly cause by these conditions:
  • Valve adjustment
  • Faulty spark plug 6
  • Clogged or faulty fuel injector 6
  • Faulty ignition coil 6
  • Fuel injector 6 harness is open or shorted
  • Fuel injector 6 circuit poor electrical connection
  • Ignition coil 6 harness is open or shorted
  • Ignition coil 6 circuit poor electrical connection
  • Insufficient cylinder 6 compression
  • Incorrect fuel pressure
  • Intake air leak
You did swap out the spark plug and Ignition Coil so you can cross that out and move on the next item on the list.

The next easy thing to do is look at the air intake see if there is any visible damage. This won't be long, you can just pop the hood open and look around.
Then you can move on compression test for cylinder 6.
Start with simple diagnosis first before jumping on the more complex time consuming ones.
Good luck.

I appreciate it, I will def be going down this list till I find it! Thank you again for a breakdown on where to look and start this will help because I’m new to the TL lol

No problem.
Just do simple task first move up to more complex items. This will save you time and money.
We have lots of good team members in here: csmean, justnspace, Edward'TLS, thoiboi, dopeboy1,... to help out.
