Vsa: 26
Vsa: 26
This is the error I got. I was driving with VSA off before one of my favorite turns, then I turned it back on after the turn, and after about 300 ft I got a VSA error 26 and Hill Start Assist error, which went away on it's own, but the VSA: 26 is still on. I tried disconnecting the battery, but it's not going away. Any idea what it could be, what could have possibly caused it, and how to fix it?
The error will go away when after 2-3 drive cycles the computer detects all is ok again. So, go through the same scenario of your fave turn with the VSA on so that the computer can detect that all is good. Be safe.
Thanks for your response. By now I went through about 60 driving cycles and error is still there. The VSA light is on non stop and it's impossible to turn VSA either on or off; it's completely disabled and it is not working. Any other ideas?
It may be as simple as tire pressure or wheel alignment or the tread on tires has gone bad. The error, according to the shop manual is Lateral Acceleration Sensor. But it could be very complicated. You are much better off to head over to a dealer to look at that. Since you are 6MT, replacing that sensor involves removing the shifter and re-programming the new sensor after. Thats a big job. So what you can do is to eliminate the simple stuff like check tires, alignment, pressure and also if you can take a look under the car around the transmission to see if there is any visible damage to all the brackets hanging with wires around that space. If all that check ok then chances are the sensor has gone bad.
Tire pressure is the same in all four tires. Tires have about 10,000 miles on them, tire wear is normal, and the car drives straight; obviously that doesn't mean the alignment is perfect, but at the same time it's not completely out of wack. I'll get the car re-aligned when I put new shocks in, but for now nothing out of the ordinary with the alignment. I'll check everything under the car for physical damage this weekend. I'm very mechanically inclined, so I am not afraid to tackle any job on a car, but in this case the only thing that is limiting me is not having the OEM diagnostic equipment
.
...and please don't tell me that by the VSA sensor, you mean the VSA modulator, which looks like an ABS modulator, because that's a $1,550.00 ($1,150.00) part. I'm assuming it's the same part, as Acura doesn't list a separate ABS modulator, but just as a side note the ABS works fine.

Get the shop manual from one of the links in this thread: https://acurazine.com/forums/fourth-...manual-899572/ (hope the link still works). The rest is in there.

Interesting. Please elaborate. What do you mean, and how did you do that?
My only "experience" is that my vsa flashes on and off when driving on ice and snow in our crappy winter conditions. Which I assume is normal.

The stability system uses the sensor to see if you are going straight. Complicated. After an alignment it is a good idea to re-set that sensor, using the Honda diagnostic system tablet/software. There is a complex procedure to relearn/reset manually but its too much hassle to do that.
BTW, its the same sensor VW used to determine if the car is in "emissions test mode"... i.e. the steering wheel wasn't moving.

I too have had this error pop up recently. Not sure why but a few days ago after starting the car from a snow bank and driving a minute, I got a "check hill start assist" and "check vsa" error. I drove the rest of the way and turned off and on to check and now only had the "check vsa" error.
Thinking it would reset after a few drive cycles it did not.
I searched and found the VSA needs to be reset as per many Honda/Acura forums by grounding pin 4 to 9 on the OBD port with a paper clip. This is the same for both ABS reset and the VSA (VSA reset procedure does not need to be grounded to a separate ground, pin 4 is the chassis ground).
Once the pins are connected, turning on the car to pre ignition you get a different confirmation beep than you normally would to indicate some diagnostic mode and everything flashes continuously.
The forums indicated to reset the ABS first and then the VSA but I wanted to experiment as I only had a VSA error. So I first only attempted to reset the VSA with no luck. Then I proceeded to reset the ABS anyway and the VSA light reset itself at that point as I reset the ABS.
Definitely did not want to go booking appointments for something like a reset with a scanner tool.
