Trim on windshield 2012 TL loose

Started hearing a noise at highway speed and my wife noticed from the passenger seat some loose trim flopping in the wind at the top of the windshield. I had the windshield replaced about a year ago. Looks like I could just snip this off since the underlying rubber seems intact against the glass. Thoughts?

I mean I am sure it’s all one piece but my point is this - what is there to glue it to? It’s extremely thin and trying to glue it back to where it separated seems infeasible since there is so little surface area to work with. Talking the thickness of a paper clip if that ....am I missing something?

It's called the Side Drip Molding, and it's one long rubber piece that is connected to that chrome trim that goes along your A pillar and ends just above your rear windshield.

Some people have been cutting off the broken pieces and using black silicone to seal up any gap made by the missing rubber, not necessarily to try and glue the rubber back together.

The real fix it to replace the entire part, which can be done yourself in an hour or so (I replaced both of mine a few months ago and wrote the DIY):

Ahh ok. Makes sense. Any particular black silicone to use for this? I see several options...Permatex? JB Weld? All the same? Thanks!

p.s. not inclined to replace the entire strip even though it’s the correct fix. I hate that the guy who replaced my windshield two years ago didn’t replace this then with new material and just reused the original...

I saw one guy say he used black Permatex silicone, $10. Dunno how the results turned out, but I'm assuming it was fine since he recommended it.

I just used scissors and trimmed the loose rubber. The noise is completely gone. I really don’t see any need to use a sealer honestly. Upon inspecting this closely, this little bit of rubber doesn’t really seal anything .... it does seem to form a lip with the chrome strip making more of a channel down the side of the windshield. But that seems to be all it does. With it torn it wasn’t doing this function either - so removing it doesn’t make it any worse. Spoke to a coworker with the same car and hers did the same exact thing and she also cut these loose pieces off.... I guess time will tell if there is any ill effects of not replacing or sealing it. The windshield replacement people also told me there would be no bad effects of trimming this piece as the glass is sealed directly to the frame and hence no water can get under the glass anyway ...thanks for all the help.
