Transmission/RPM jump
Transmission/RPM jump
Hi all,
First time poster long time reader. Have a TL Tech w/ 18" wheels. Only a month old. When I am accelerating or decelerating at 20-30 mph I will ofter feel drastic car shift and RPM jump up on acceleration and RPM drop in deceleraation. It only happens occasionally. Anyone have same issues or heard of this? My 2006 MDX did similar things and there was a new softwar released by Acura earlier this year. Sorry if there were previous threads.
Thanks

i have incountered the same
not so much in my first tl which was a 96 but my second which was the 06 and now my 2011 it's not a constant jump but it does happen from time to time .When it first happened in the 06 i took it in they said i needed new engine mounts they replaced them and i still felt it from time to time . So i don't know. I also notice it with my 2011 i know i don't need engine mount replacement on that yet so i am assuming that it might be a overall issue.
mine is also very intermittent. with my 06 mdx, they changed the whole transmission and i read thru some threads that many people with that year's model was having the same issues. Recently, I received a letter from Acura and advised to do a software update at dealers to fix rpm jump issue.
Wonder it is similar to '11 TL. Hope not, I love the car.

I think I've experienced something like this on several occasions. It most often happens in turns, the car shifts down causing a sort of lurch which results in my body lurching forward as the rest of the vehicle slows down. It's never happened with other people in the car, but if it did, I would probably be a little embarrassed by it.
Haven't heard of this happening on acceleration but on deceleration Acura has something called "grade logic" control that is supposed to help with braking. My 04 and 08 did it as well. Not sure if this is what you are experiencing or not. You might want to check out what the manual says abou it.
I've noticed on my '11 that on some occasions the transmission will downshift as many have described. It does not do it all the time, but at least a few times a week. I've wondered if the car is supposed to do that, or it's a problem. I've not had my first service yet, so when I take it in, I will ask.

I've noticed this, as well. I first noticed on my '01 TL, but attributed it to a trans that was about to dive. I traded it in and noticed it on my 2012 AWD (7k miles to date), as well. It's strange... i notice it mostly when coasting and the RPMs fall down around 1,000. They will auto kick back to ~1,500 and it's a strange feeling, almost as if somebody pressed the accellerator. The other issue I have is that I feel that I decelerate rather quickly. If I'm going 80mph and take my foot off the gas, I feel as if I hit 70mph in a matter of seconds. Not sure if anybody else experiences this. I would love to just learn to deal with it, but can't help but to feel that there's an issue.

I have a 2012 TL. I know this is an old post but I am going to reply to this one anyway. I was experience the problems faced by OP. I took it to the dealer/service station to get it checked out. They observed it happening with me in the car. Then they test drove it and were able to reproduce it. After that they tried another 2012 TL. They said that they were able to reproduce these on the other 2012 TL as well!!
They told me the computer on board keeps fault codes. There were NO fault codes in my car. This is normal behavior, and completely acceptable.
Honda, as I am beginning to understand is apparently pushing out less than perfect cars on the streets. I have owned a manual Accord in the past for a few months. I had issues with its transmission as well.
Honda in my opinion is a little weak with their transmission engineering. What they do is considered "acceptable".
And I though my wife did not know how to drive and was feathering the accelerator.
