Torn weather stripping

Anyone else have an issue with the weatherstripping on the molding tearing and continuously peeling back from front to rear? I'm referring to the 1/8" rubber strip that is attached to the chrome molding piece that runs from the base of the windshield to the rear window. I have to keep trimming it as it peels back because it flaps all over causing a buzzing noise and staining the paint. Based on the parts image, it appears these molding pieces simply snap in place? If so, it seems like they should be pretty easy to replace. They're $86 each though, which sucks.

I have the same issue. It's a 2009 TL and I park it outside in the sun.

My 2010 TL is doing the same thing. I ordered them plus the Windshield molding (which shrank from the sun causing a passenger side water leak) from Acura this morning.

Cool. Please post back after you replace them and let me/us know if you encountered any difficulty.

I have the same issue as well. I've been reluctant to replace them.... maybe once all of the rubber falls off, it'll leave just the chrome and nobody will be the wiser!

The silver part has a rubber edge. That is that part that is wearing out. My car is out in the sun and it is for sure degrading. Good to know that there is a replace part for it.

I have had the same issue with the rubber seal/molding on top of the chrome being completely worn out. I took my TL to an Acura Dealership and was quoted $1200 just to replace all 4.

1200? That's Ridiculous. I'm gonna Check out Youtube to see if anyone has done it already. Dealerships pricing can be outrageous while Some dealerships can be quite reasonable.

I am having the same issue with my 12. I keep it parked in the garage at home and in the parking garage at work so the car sees very little sunlight. I have gradually taken off the seals cause they keep peeling off with the wind and flapping all over the car around them making a lot of noise when I drive it.

Climate differences?

My car also has no issues with the weatherstripping, but I live in a moderate climate.

I think there's 4 clips near the windshield is. Bottom, middle and top. I used plastic pry tools to remove mine. After you got those 3 clips removed, the flips on the roof is pretty easy. I think you slide the rails up then bring the bottom up to release those. I wrapped my roof and took them off to get a cleaner wrap. It's been a couple years since i've done it so I don't quite remember but it's pretty easy. It's definitely not a 1200 job. This thread has a link to a service manual for our cars.

I'm having this exact same problem with both sides of my windshield right now. Has anyone just completely removed that thin strip of rubber?

I just ripped my off too. It happened about 2/3 weeks ago. I wish I cut it to make it cleaner. Thanks @jtech316 I will look at the manual to see if it's an easy fix.

^^^^ My bad. The OP was actually referring to the shiny molding at the base of the side windows, which has a thin rubber strip attached. Definitely not that chrome strip on the roof.

Mine has completely disintegrated. I was finding pieces on my driveway and finally realized what it was. Car is 2012 so am disappointed that these fell apart. $1200 to replace they must be mad.

You were quoted $1,200!? This is a DIY job. I got the left and right side trim from the dealer ($90 per side) and installed them myself. Super easy.

Mine got replaced via insurance. My car was caught in the cross fire of a fight in a parking lot. Glass was thrown, people fighting ON my car...so I filed a clam to fix the damage. all parties agreed that the scrapes and scratches that were on the chrome pieces were most likely caused by the event. By replacing the chrome piece the rubber is also replaced. Just saying... it was unfortunate and fortunate at the same time.

So the dealer wanted $120 per side. Auto parts store doesn't have stripping thing enough to just replace etc.. So I ended up taping the chrome with painters tape and using Black Silicone Adhesive Sealant $8 bucks. Simply cut a small hole in the nozzle lined it up in the groove and just filled the slot in. My car is black so it came out good. Not noticeable unless you are searching for it.

Related issue: the rubber on the door trim pieces is also now peeling. I may go ahead and order all four even though my passenger side is the only one peeling away at this time. $72 each 🤦‍♂️
