Timing belt replacement

Just got a call from my shop, after dropping the car off this morning. Had a noise coming from the front wheel on hard right turns, which I'm told was a backing plate that came loose, though I'm also told it's time to get the brakes done (which is a bummer, as I'd planned on getting new rotors from one of the vendors here, but won't be able to wait for the shipping).

My mechanic also suggested getting the timing belt done, as they say it's due at 96,000 km (though the manual suggests 100,000 km). I'm at 92,000 km. They want $850 (cdn) for this...does that sound right for this sort of work? I'll likely put it off, to another day anyway, as they said it's at least 4 hours, and I need the car back tonight. The brakes I'll certainly get done, though.

odd that here in the states, it's 105,000 miles. 100,000km = 62,000 miles.
def. go by the manual, as the mechanic is trying to get you to change it early.

here in the States, timing belt service goes anywhere from as low as $300USD to as high as $1200USD

If I'm not mistaken, they recommend it at 100,00km as opposed to 160,000km if you live in harsher climate (Canada)

That's right. Now that I look again, I was looking at the Maintenance Minder "sub-items" list in the manual, which states that "If you drive regularly in very high temperatures (over 110F, 43C) or in very low temps (-20F, -29C) replace every 60,000 miles of 100,000 kms". I'm not sure where the "regular" interval is published, but it hits colder than -29C at least 10-20 days every winter here...sometimes more.

I'm at 145k KM. I'm probably going to do my belt, water pump, and spark plugs before winter (I should be closer to 150k by then). Toronto doesn't get as cold for as long, but we do it -30C for a few days each winter.
Are the tensioners on these engines prone to needing replacement as well?

When I replaced my timing belt, the auto-tensioner was leaking fluid, however it was still tight before i pulled it off. The Aisin kit I bought included it, glad it did.

the tensioner is hydraulic and can fail over time.
our engines are interference engines and the pistons WILL kiss the valves

I checked with the dealer, and they say that in Canada, due to temperatures, they do recommend bumping it to 96,000 km. As for the tensioners, since there's no extra labour, I'd be inclined to get those taken care of at the same time.

For what it's worth, the dealer wants $1,149.75 (CDN with tax in) for this.

Thanks guys. I'm debating whether to go to stealership or my independent mechanic. I have ext warranty until 200k. 1150 doesnt seem that bad for a dealer price... i'll see how much my mechanic and my dealer are.

My dealer wants $1525 (After tax).... that's just timing belt, water pump, tensioner, and new coolant.

Also, can anybody confirm if this is the right part number for the OEM kit that includes the tensioner?

I asked the acura dealer if they sold a timing belt kit, they said they didn't sell an OEM kit with a part number, just individual part #'s

Here's what I purchased for my 09 TL from amazon, also same kit for our odyssey. Comes with tensioner(which I needed because it was leaking).
