Timing belt Job in the GTA

Anyone know a inexpensive shop to do the timing belt job on a 2009 TL 3.7 AWD?

I neglected to do it a couple years ago however was quoted just under 900 in Surrey BC at that time.

I went to 2 independant shops in brampton and they want 1400 to do the job...

$1400 CAD seems right in line with other prices I've seen from an independent shop, my local dealer quoted $1900 3 years ago if I had mine done separate from the pistons/rings warranty situation.

Yeah on second thought its not a bad price considering what my buddy was charged for the chain in his vehicle. I was able to find a mechanic willing to do the labor for 650 so I went ahead and got the parts and spark plugs and then went down the rabbit hole... Got new fog lights as mine were cracked, new LED lights and a set of stabilizer links as well. The car is at 284,000KM so at this point I think ill keep it until either the engine or tranny is toast. Was going to sell the thing and get a Korean hybrid but the savings in fuel and peace of mind isn't worth the cost at this point. I should get a few more years out of the TL i think.

I hear that, my '12 is at 230k kms and though it guzzles full tanks of $2/litre gas every 4-5 days (long commute), the current price of anything out there completely wipes out any fuel savings that I might see. Also hanging on for another few years.

I try to bring down the average a bit by going 100 KM/H on highways and being gentle on accelerator in the City.

Unfortunately my stretch of the 401 is very hilly, so doing 100 or 120 makes little difference and I just go with the flow. It seems like I'm always chugging up a damn hill. Last average was 9.5 over 620km, 90% highway.

If you can get it under 10, that is GREAT!

Haha, right? When I lived in town and my commute was 6km one way through all stop and go traffic, I would average 16-17. Didn't think much of it then since gas was so cheap at the time.

I was shown the old timing belt after the job and I probably could have left the thing in there and done without changing it. 10 years and 190,000km on it, the belt looked great. Not sure what i was fusing about. I guess better safe than sorry.

I did mine at 150 000 KM. The issue I was getting was a squeal on cold starts in the fall/winter. There was a degrading tensioner that was part of the Timing Belt replacement. Once that was done, no more squeals on cold starts in fall/winter.
