Subwoofer rattle (hopefully without negative comments)

Hi guys,

So i posted a thread where I mentioned I had loud rattling coming from the rear when I played music with heavy bass. It was shut down due to e-thugging. First of all, I've been a member of this forum for 13 years, so I'm not a complete idiot (my wife would disagree though).

I found the source of most of the rattle. It was coming from the brake light. I managed to get rid of most of the rattle by folding up a piece of paper and shoving it between the brake light cover and the rear window (towards the bottom horizontal part with the rubber stripping). I searched the owners manual and it didnt mention how to remove the brakelight cover. I can probably rig it once I remove it, but I dont want to break any of the clips.

Does anyone know how I can remove the cover? Are there any screws inside which I can tighten? BTW, the piece of paper is clearly visible from outside, so I need to tackle it another way. Or else, I'll have to dig out the black magic marker to color it .

Cheers

I have no useful comment other than to LOL at your "e-thugging". Sorry wish I could help but that was funny as hell.

On my 09 the brake light is held on by two clips, one on each side. Ive had mine off a few times. In fact I installed a brake liight module inside the brake light cavity. Just be careful pushing in the clips. They can break.

Use some black foam tape instead of paper.

Do you have a plastic interior pry tool like pictured?

These are super cheap and will save you from damaging anything. I can't tell you where you need to pry from because I don't know the exact location of the clips. Once you get that off you'll easily be able to tell what's causing the rattle.

I removed mine by pulling down on it where it meets the headliner. While it was off, I stuck some dynamat on the inside rear area of it. Don't stick it near the area that is seen through the window (you don't want to see dynamat through the rear window). This eliminated my rattle.

No Problems

My SH-AWD Advance has had NONE of the issues I have seen complained about here - except those posted by people who don't like the way something works, even though that is exactly the way it it intended to work per the owner's manual. I expect to see a post any day now complaining that too much sunlight comes in through the panoramic sunroof.

I have a 2000 TL and I thought the rattle was in the rear deck from the bose sub, but when I grab the inner bottom of the sunroof up front from drivers seat (tray) the rattle goes away... uni directional rattle (cannot pinpoint source area ) Anybody try to fix or have experience here ?

Not sure if you guys are aware, there’s a TSB for the 09-12 TLs - back dash noises. I’m not entirely sure what it entails since I don’t have the issue, but for some who may have a similar problem to the OP, and are looking for a different answer, you might be experiencing this instead:

TSB 11-024 - Rear Shelf Area Clicks, Taps, or Ticks
Applies To: 2009-12 TL - All
