Squeaking in the Steering Column When Pressing the Start/Stop Button

When i get in the car and press the start button i hear a squeaking sound in the column. It is like something is engaging or something in there. I also hear the same sound when i turn the car off.

Any clue what it is? Worried labor will make this an expensive repair.

It is the steering wheel lock mechanism releasing as you start and locking when turning off. It could need some grease.

The steering column looks quite complicated once you remove the plastic cover that surrounds it. Best bet is to get a can of silicone lubricant with the little tube attached and spray where you see gears, joints, springs and so forth. At least it only cost $10 and 20 min of your time.
I had a squeak when turning the steering wheel and this had eliminate the noise.
