Rear shelf ticking

Anyone else with an increase in the rear shelf ticking/tapping noise with the warmer weather? It's in the 80's here in Chicagoland today and there was quite an increase in mine.

Acura did not. I did. After chasing this annoying problem I have found a temporary fix. The noise (at least on mine) is caused by the sheetmetal contact under my rear deck and behind the rear seats .I cannot pinpoint the exact seem or spot weld but if I lube everyone visible with Teflon wax lubricant it completely eliminates the ticking. It seems to last for only 3 months but the area can be exposed, sprayed and put back together in 15 minutes.

Rear deck ticking sound

Yes, please. Please post what you did to get to the problem and where you think it is centered.

I will post pics next time I'm in there.

Lower upper trunk lining by removing 4 round black plastic fasteners and releasing velcro from attached side trunk lining.
Once area is exposed (underneath rear deck)lubricate every seam and spot weld or plastic contact area that you can see. Also lube upper fender area near back seat. I used Duponts Teflon wax lubricant (sold at Lowes in a blue can). I had to do this more than once so you may also need several applications. I know its a band-aid solution but 3 months of silence at a time is priceless to me.

Thanks the help. We are now getting hot weather in East TN and my ticking is back. The local dealer worked extensively on this last fall--new speakers, new struts, and more--right about when the hot weather was over and I didn't hear anymore rattles until now, when it is not again. No noise is the morning, only after sitting out in 80's and higher temps. I have another appt. next week and I'm trying to share everything with the dealer that I can about what might be the fix. Curiously, I've not heard people with 2011's discuss the problem. Mine's a 2010.

I am diggin through TSBs right now and found this http://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/pubs/SB/B09-014.pdf

Is for the TSX, but describes your issue:

Rear Shelf Clicks, Ticks, Creaks, or Pops
SYMPTOM
There is a metallic click, tick, creak, or pop coming from
the rear shelf area.
PROBABLE CAUSE
There is not enough clearance between metal body
panels in the rear shelf area.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Increase the clearance between the metal body
panels.

Yep that's the issue. Only problem is finding the *exact* seem, crease or spot weld area.

I'm in Indiana, and my 2010 "station wagon creak" is back, too. My wife coined that term because she remembers this from a late 1970's Ford LTD station wagon from her youth that made the same creaking sound in the back...

Finally took mine into the dealer this week. They seem to have fixed it. They "separated" the sheet metal areas that seemed to be squeaking and sprayed in insulation (presumably the foam type). They claimed my car was the second car with the issue and will work with me if it comes back. The first car involved Acura corporate tech gurus who couldn't figure out how to fix it. The difference with the first car was the squeak was much worse than mine and was also occurring in the winter time.

The local dealer worked on my TL for quite a while. I mentioned the TXS tech service bulletin. An Acura technician or engineer came into town to help the dealer staff. They took everything out of the rear seat and decklid area and checked all the seams with a microphone of some type and worked on the seams and one of the seat belt retractors. Over the course of about 8 business days they spent a ton of time and drove the car 100 miles trying to find and fix the problem. Unfortunately, I still hear it. The dealer was immensely active in trying to fix the problem and promised to look at it again if need be. I guess I will just live with it. I don't think I can ask them to spend that kind of time and energy on it again. Not to mention the loaner, which they insisted I take on our planned vacation. I am frustrated with the noise but overwhelmed with the response of the service manager and the Acura.
