WDP paint discolor/plastic vs. metal
Has anyone actually got the bumpers repainted to match better due to an accident or it just bothered you??
if so did it turn out better/worse??
did acura help out on this issue??

I think the issue with the paint color is due to the flex additive that is used with the bumper paint. It's really hard to get the color right with the mix. Maybe someone like nexson could chime in on this and correct me if I'm wrong.
And yes...mine was worse after a bumper scratch fix.

I had the front's and rear's repainted... along with the skirts. Much better match then from the factory. Still not 100% but MUCH MUCH better. Whereas before the skirts would match the body, and the bumpers were much darker (indicating more pearl) the skirts match the bumpers and the blend is much better.
With WDP it's much more noticeable depending on lighting conditions, and the angle upon which the light reflects off the pearl.

That WDP bumper match has always looked bad; very noticeable on the gorgeous 3G pearl blend, and even noticed it on my Anthracite 3G CL.
A good shop can make this work and look 100% better.

I'm having my rear bumper and left quarter panel painted due to someone really doing a number on my bumper. I took it to a really nice bodyshop and the owner warned me that the pearl white might not match 100%.
Thanks for the info guys...
@jnc2000....any pix or close up ones where the body meets the bumpers
@typs1fan....lemme know how it turns out
Its just something that keeps me just liking the car and not loving it....

^^Ron Jon said he is still working on the kit. He said to give him some time and that the molds are ready and we should have them soon. he said there was a minor issue that has gotton resolved.
You could paint a whole car with the same exact paint and the bumpers will still look off on lighter colors. The plastic reflects differently. They reflect differently because the amount of heat each one holds and reflects. Metal vs plastic.
Bumpers rarely match from factory because they are painted at a different factory.
Pearls are the hardest, esp WDP. Takes a good painter to blend pearls (tri stage). One of the main reasons I didn't get a WDP TL is because of the horrible paint match. For anyone that doesnt know much about paint, would think my bumper was poorly matched due to an accident.

Great way to put it Brian.
My paint will match depending on what angle and on what lighting conditions you look at it from. Simply put the pearl reflects differently on the plastic. I could take close up macro pictures but honestly they wouldn't do any justice. You have to see the car in person - or next to another WDP to see the difference. Match for match it's much much better. Is it perfect, honestly no -- but that's not a function of the paint or my painter as I had the car painted and everything blended... its a function of the pearl.
When my body panels were sanded down and the base coat was applied everything was a 100% match. However as soon as the pear was laid down that's when things started getting harry. You can add an extra coat of pearl and you can try to blend it in but in the end you can only do so much.
If you want to see pictures of my car click my sig. Its a link to my build thread. If you want to see my car in person I live in Ohio... Otherwise I'll be at the CanAm meet this Aug in Mass...

Photos For Warranty Paint Repair Claims
BACKGROUND
American Honda, its factories, and its suppliers are constantly striving to increase the quality, durability, and reliability of Acura vehicles. In the interest of making such improvements, as of March 2009, American Honda requires that digital photographs be taken of paint defects submitted for warranty repair.
Examples of paint defects include mismatched colors, dirt in the paint, gloss issues, paint runs, "hiding" (thin paint), etc. Photos of these defects help provide valuable product information to the factory for quicker analysis and development of countermeasures.
As a result, each Acura dealer is required to:
^ Take digital photos of paint defects submitted for warranty consideration.
^ Obtain DPSM authorization prior to starting any warranty paint repair.
^ Store warranty paint claim photos for 12 months, in accordance with the document retention policy outlined in the current Dealer Operations Manual.
NOTE : A warranty claim may be subject to debit if the photos submitted do not adequately show the client's paint complaint.
WARRANTY CLAIM INFORMATION
None. This service bulletin is for information only.
PAINT DEFECT PHOTO GUIDELINES
^ Before photographing the paint defect, wash and completely dry the vehicle. Dirt, dust, and water spots visible in the photos may cover the paint defects and make them difficult to diagnose.
^ To properly document each warranty paint repair claim, four to five photos are required. These photos must be taken using a digital camera, with "macro" focusing capabilities, to provide detailed, in-focus close-ups.
^ For maximum clarity, the file size for each photo must be between 500 kb and 2,000 kb (2 mb). ZIP-compressed files are not acceptable.
^ Cell phone photos are not acceptable because of the phone's lack of focusing capability.
^ Before committing to paint repair, ensure that the photos you've taken are clear and in focus, and meet the standards and required number and type of photos for warranty claim submittal.
^ It's best to shoot multiples of each required shot; this gives you the widest choice of photos to choose from. To free up hard drive space after you've chosen your four or five best shots, delete the extra photos.

I think the mismatch is the greatest noticed from the side the 2 doors compared to the front and rear bumpers are easily noticed to be different in pictures
Thing is - do you really want to take that in as warranty work and have some shop repaint your car? What would they repaint ( I assume all plastics to try and match the metal) but is it worth the future hassles?
