Rear seat ceiling lights not working. Please help.

Please let me know if something is broken or if I'm missing something silly.

When using the on/off buttons from the front seats, both front and rear over head lights work.

However, from the back seats, the over head buttons do not turn on the lights.

Broken? Or user error?

Thank you!

So I went into my garage to play around with it and what I found is really quite stupid. A silly design flaw for sure.

Up front, there are three buttons as you all know, ON, DOOR, and OFF.
After messing around with several variations of turning lights on and off, the last thing I did was hit DOOR. What I found was with the DOOR button on (green light on), only then can the rear seat lights can be turned on and off from the rear seat.
And to make things even weirder, if you have the DOOR button on, and you decide to hit the ON button, the DOOR button is then turned off. That also makes no sense.

Why in the world would that be? I personally never keep the DOOR button on because I don't like my cabin lighting up when I open the door to get in. So I guess if I have a passenger in the rear seat that would like to switch the light on, I will just have remember to hit DOOR before they can turn the light on. So ridiculous lol.

Well... enough characters wasted on rear seat lighting. Let me know if anyone has had a different experience. Maybe my car is crazy.

It's a four door vehicle; presumably some design consideration went into the fact that it may haul kids from time to time. Most rear "conveniences" can be controlled from the driver's seat. I can lock out windows, for instance, and in my wife's Pilot, can lock out the entertainment system and the climate control. Being able to lock out the rear seat lights is a good idea...one that I wasn't aware existed until you posted. My son likes to read in the back seat, which can make night driving a bit more harrowing.

Every car I've ever owned has the on-off-door combination, and I never choose anything but "door". Why wouldn't you want to see what's in your car as you sit down? Personal preference, I suppose.

But I wouldn't call having more control a "design flaw".

I hear ya. More control is a plus, but it would make more sense if it made more sense. It's not intuitive and shouldn't have to grab a manual to figure out how the lights work lol. I didn't look through the manual though... I just poked around more than anyone should have to.

The DOOR button is a known feature to allow for illumination as you are entering or exiting your car. For Acura to assume we would just know that DOOR also means "lock rear lights" is a bit silly. Especially since it doesn't even remain locked if you choose to hit the ON button for whatever reason. Which isn't a crazy thing to do if you need light.

Yeah just personal preference for me. I don't keep any car on DOOR mode. I like it dark all the time. I even keep my Nav screen off 95% of the time. When I need to navigate, I tell Siri to take me somewhere.

But obviously this is a nothing issue. Of course I hope I don't find too many other nothing issues. I only started the thread because I thought maybe mine was acting up.

Thank you for the replies!

Okay...but I sure hope you get surprised by a rapist hiding in your back seat one day.

That would ruin your weekend.

That's funny. Yes, a mistake. I would never wish that on someone. I reworded the post, but clearly didn't proofread my change.

Thanks for not assuming the worst.
