Rattle from Rear Deck/Sub

I'm getting a plastic sounding rattle from the rear deck. I thought it was the child seat hook covers, but it's not them. I hear the noise when the sub is up or going over grooved pavement. Anyone else had this issue and know of a fix?
Thanks

Subtle Rattle Coming from Passenger Side of Rear Deck

I began to hear an intermittant click/rattle coming from the rear decklid area on the passenger side. It is very subtle, and you can't hear it if the radio is on. Not really noticeable on the freeway, but occasionally noticeable on other roads. I took my 2009 TL Tech SH-AWD into the dealership for a normal oil service, and a tech rode in the back and was able to hear it. They completely disassembled the back seat area, and located the problem somewhere way in the corner of the car in the deck/trunk area. They think it may be a bad weld, but it is an area they cannot get to, so they are sending it to a body shop to fix.

They may have the car for up to a week, so I am in a TSX loaner. Glad I got the TL instead of the TSX, because the TSX is a pretty rough ride, and not nearly as nice as the TL.

I will keep this board informed as the situation progresses.

Hmmm...sounds similar to what I'm battling for the past 6 months. I'm taking her in for the second time next week. The first time they did address it and said it was the seams rubbing when driving on local roads. At highway speeds, there is no noise. Sounds like it comes from the right rear C pillar or behind the back seat.

They located it the first time and removed the back seat. They dimpled the welds (whatever that means!) and also spread them apart where they were rubbing. They also added seam sealer. This was done in Nov/Dec when it was cold. Now that the weather has warmed up, it's coming back. So I guess they didn't spread it far enough. It was totally silent after they fixed it the first time provided the weather was cold, below 45 deg or so.

Keep us posted!

They have had the car for a week now. District Service Manager has driven car and they think it is a rear strut. They are going to replace it Monday (today is Friday) and see if that solves the problem. The Acura dealership has been very good about keeping me informed and I have had the use of a loaner. I am driving a TSX, and it makes me really happy I bought the TL.

I'm dropping mine off again next Tuesday. I doubt mine is strut related as the first time they did quiet it down, only to rear its head again recently when the weather warmed. I could be wrong and it would be great if it was strut related.

Finally got my car back. They replaced the strut, but that didn't fix the rattle, so they put some "body wax" somewhere inside the back area. That made the rattle less noticeable, but still there. They said the only thing left was to start taking the back end of the car apart (unwelding the area between the trunk and wheel wells, and looking inside). I said no way, as that could introduce addtional problems when they put it back together. They agreed that was a bad idea. So, I will just live with it. As long as it doesn't get worse, it really isn't all that noticeable, and on the freeway or smooth roads it isn't there at all. And, with the sound system on even at a low volume it isn't noticeable. Ce la vie.

Your problem sounds very similar to mine! Looks like you may be the 3rd person to experience this. I wonder if this is a trend???!!!!

Another person reported something similar in Post #36 and my post is #37.

My March build 2010 just started getting a plastic creak/clicking sound coming from the rear caused by small road imperfections this past week (outside temps hit mid 90s). This isn't a thump like the other posts have implied but a higher pitched clicking noise. High base volumes have nothing to do with this noise, it seems to me.

...sounds like inherent quirk of this car's design.

On the Drivers side door jam. Should be upper right corner.

i had my front driver and passenger speakers both blow, then my rear speaker blew and my rear deck was making noises and rattling. i told my dealer to put in a new speaker, and take the whole rear deck apart and make sure that everything was tight and squared away. got a loaner and 2 hours later i came back and everything was perfect, that was a couple months ago and its seems to be holding up. the dealers and acura know the speakers are a serious problem and if they say otherwise, call them out on it

Three months later, rattle still there. Interestingly even when the radio is on at low volume, I can't hear it. As soon as I turn volume to zero, the click/rattle reappears. I guess it (the rattle/click) is soothed by music.

Got the same kind of rattle in the rear deck, passenger side or C pillar. Looks like something is rubbing...

I just purchased a 2010 TL Tech Sh-awd and had this rattle with the sub, noticed it the same night I took it out for a spin. Took it in today and had one of the techs listen to it. The frequency had to be just right to hear it. For me it turned out to be the 3rd light plastic cover that was vibrating against the rear glass. He pulled it off and put some one sided glue felt strips around the plastic cover (felt facing glass) and that eliminated the severe vibration. For anyone hearing vibration with music on the deck lid..

I just got the same thing. they said it was strut at first. then weld. finally they found a memo that said supports had to be stretched and lubed. the noise is finally gone. i feel as if i have a new car for once.

(Never mind. I found your other thread and posted there.)
