Tighten Gas Cap

Get this message constantly, any reason why? Anyone else experiencing this? I make sure to tighten it too

If it clicks and feels like its tightened it might be a faulty sensor?

Had this problem with my 07 typeS. Brought to the dealer 4-5x and he told me I'm not tightening the cap enough. Even gave me a crappy looking HONDA gas cap. Finally, brought it to a different dealer and they found defective "purge control solenoid". Hope this helps

Had this problem after my second fill-up. I know I turned the cap 'til it clicked. I unscrewed and re-screwed until it clicked 5X. Warning went off after appx "5 driving cycles". I'll be watching closely if it happens again. I don't "top off", but wonder if the gas pump auto-shut off could have still overfilled. That tripped the sensor on my wife's Odyssey once when the auto shut-off overfilled (to the point gas spilled on the ground). We decided to give it a couple of weeks - the light went off after about 10 days of daily driving and hasn't been seen since (been several months).

Same problem I had with my 07 TL-S. Took me 3 times to the dealership before they finally got it. Same as above was the problem "purge control solenoid". I was told this was a very common problem with the 07-08 TL-S. Hope this helps.

I have an 06 and had the tighten gas cap warning come on. I checked the cap, it was tight, the tether was not caught, etc. Has anyone heard of the purge control solenoid going out on a 2006? All I see discussed here is 2007 or newer. I filled up several days ago, did not overfill/top off and it came on driving on the highway today. Annoying...

Happened to me last week. I thought someone was trying to steal my gas. I tightened it but the light is still on. Waited till the next day and it disappeared. I will see if it will come back on again.

I have the same problem with my 07 TL-S. The dealer told me I would have to spend $70 just to run a diagnostic on the car to find out what it could be. That doenst include the fix.

What are you being charged for the Purge Control Solenoid???

woah i didnt know this was an issue for the 4g as well. there is a sensor that needs to be replaced on the 3g, it should be covered under the emissions warranty

Sorry for the LATE reply. The part for my '06 was $32. They tried the $75 dollars for the diagnostic crap... they also insisted it could NOT be the PCS. That did not go well for them and the Purge Control Solenoid was indeed the issue, and covered under warranty. (My car was just under 100K).

All cars are pretty sensitive to gas cap tightness now. The "check engine" light is usually just a loose gas cap. Has to do with emissions control. Nice to see that they have a specific warning light for it now.
