LED or HID DRL's

Hello to everyone, I am brand new to the forum and so far very happy with it.

I have a 2010 TL (Base) and I'm going to be switching out some of the exteriof lights on the car and was told that I really shouldn't change the DRLs because they are the high beams as well.

Has anyone switched the DRLs to LED or HIDs? If so, any additional info would be great. Thx!

yes people do change it to halogens and LED.. putting HID's on your drl is not a smart idea.

Keep in mind if you put in LED, you lose your high beams.

I pulled my DRL fuse after trying some "titanium white" bulbs and realizing the stock bulbs were 1000% better.

After I posted this thread I did some research and there were some people talking about a possible fix with some CREE lights (sorry I'm a newbie and have no idea what they are talking about) but apparently they would fix the issue of losing your high beams...

Has anyone heard anything about this? Or does anyone know of any other "work-around"?

Thanks again...

Your high beams still won't work without some modification of your headlights (you have to remove the plastic piece that is in front of the bulb), and even then they won't be near as good as your stock high beams. The CREE LED's do fire forward (if I'm saying that right) but the light doesn't carry as far as halogens. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Got it. Basically it boils down to whether the "yellow" light bothers me enough to not have high beams...hmmm gonna have to sleep on that one.

I appreciate the feedback

I just pulled the fuse. No ugly yellow and the high beams still work. I don't feel the DRL are necessary.

There are some other forms where I read that people are replacing DRL with LED. I have ordered DRL LEDs and decoder harness. Once I get it and replace it, I will post here to see how it works. Having car for 3 years, I have never used High Beams, maybe once. The regular HID are fine for me.

Go with the LED's. I think some people will want to beat you down if you roll with HID's in the DRL area.

I finally installed LED bulb for DRL. It looks just like potmilkz light.
I do get DRL light issue warning in my car. I do have the cables to fix this issue. I'm just waiting for a nice warm day.
