Issues using LED's for license plate bulbs

Using led's from v-led's as the title says however one of them just went out today (installed brand new in June) . The bulb itself looked damaged; the plastic around the base was melted. THis is the second time this has happened to me with vled's products. The first time v-led deemed the bulbs was defective and replaced 2 of them for me.

Now unlike last time, I'm not able to get any other bulbs to work in that slot. I've tried 3 different (brand new) led's from v-led (bought extra for backup) and also two of the stock bulbs that came on the car. I doubt 5 different bulbs are defective or blown so I'm assuming I have damage to the light socket or something else? The other bulb and socket are functioning properly however I haven't pulled the other bulb to inspect it.

Any thoughts? Experiences? If I have to replace the socket, anyone know what the dealer charges?

I'm waiting on someone from v-led to respond to my email.

Thanks.

I would stop sticking bulbs in there until you fix the real problem.

Its time to get out the volt meter and trace the power back to the short.

I think those plate bulbs are on the same circuit so if the other side isnt having a problem you might not have to go far to find the problem.

My guess is that its in the socket, if so check the help isle while you are there for replacements.

I'm gonna take a look inside the socket tomorrow as well. Some of the plastic insulation near the contacts of the led has melted back (an issue that seems common with the LED?) so perhaps some plastic is in the socket?

If your car is still under warranty, put the original bulbs back in and let the dealer fix it.

just so you know, the proper way to put these on is to completely disconnect your car battery so that it wont short anything.. then put the bulbs on..

No sh*t. Never heard that before. Never had a problem installing leds with the battery connected either .. Even with my 3G TL.

I inspected the other led license plate bulb that's still working and it too seems to have the same melting of plastic near the contacts. Also visually inspected both sockets and despite the plastic melting on the leds, the sockets seem fine. Gotta get a voltage meter on the socket thats out.

My bulb which is LED went out as well and I install at least 6 different others bulbs and the stock one and no light. Unlike this situation my led did not melt or look damage. 34104-S82-A11 is the part number I'm seeing but not sure if its one preside or one whole unit will have to would check. But anyone else experience this? If so what was the fix.
