Hi Acura lovers,

I am concerned about my engine in my 2012 TL, it has a rough idle and when I popped the hood the video below is what I heard. Has anyone else had this problem before and if so what was the cause?

 

The sound is fine, that's how it should sound.

 

I concur with altair47, that sounds perfect. Mine may be a little quieter after getting the valves adjusted last year.

 

Took my car into service and they say the motor mounts are starting to wear out, which is causing the rough idle and vibrations

 

I was actually going ask about the rough idle/vibrations symptoms as we who replied about the noise didn't chime in on that piece. How many miles on your 2012 TL? Something to think about-when I had my valves adjusted, my independent tech forgot to plug the motor-mount actuator solenoid back in and that was causing me to experience rough idle that I could definitely feel in the seats. This part is located on the firewall side of the engine. A long shot, but I figured I would mention it.

Engine mounts can cause rough idle if it is completely torn and the engine is sucking in excess air through it. My mounts have been seaping oil for several years now, the engine sometimes vibrates a little, but this does not affect idle(my mileage is 193к). Maybe you have a damaged vacuum line somewhere and the engine is sucking in air or just a crack in the air duct? But in your video the engine really works like a clock.
