Engine Issues
Engine Issues
In July 2011 I had maintenance at Downtown Acura (Toronto Canada). The motor was making some knocking sound. The dealers could hear something but could not tell what was wrong. They told me to not worry since the car is under warrantee and it won't breakdown.
Let me just summarize why I am not very happy. Having engine failure on a Honda engine is disturbing. Two different Acura dealerships told me that my car was safe to drive when it was not and it placed my family in an unsafe situation (let alone wasting a day). The car was not fixed promptly because of part issues with Acura. I drove a low end car for an extended period. I wasted a day to pick up a car in London that should never have broken down in the first place.
I communicated all these issues to Acura so you would have thought that they would have done some kind of good will gesture but no.
- On Dec 22 2011, I brought my car for maintenance (26,000KM) to the North York dealer (another dealer in Toronto Canada). I test drove the car with them and they heard the engine noise and said bring it in when you have a chance and they would fix it. They said not to worry the car won't breakdown; the car is safe to drive.
- So on January 4th my wife and my son left for Windsor (from Toronto) with the Acura TL full of joy, gifts, food and luggage to see family during the Christmas season. Well, the car broke down somewhere before London Ontario. The engine shut down when she was driving in the passing lane and needed to maneuver to the right lane and coast to an exit.
- One hr later, the tow truck brought the car to the London Acura dealer.
- My wife got a rental from Enterprise (Acura is picking up the bill) and after wasting a ton of time my family got back on the road with the rental.
- The car my wife was provided was an entry level Impala. This was the most basic Impala model. I can't believe that Acura can't could not provide a car comparable to our TL or better.
- It took almost a week before Acura confirmed that the warrantee would cover the fix. Until then they were saying that the engine was in an accident and that the warrantee may not cover this issue. Engine issues is costly and the fact that I would be stuck with the bill was a little stressful
- The Car was not ready until January 20th because of back order issues I had to drive from Toronto to London to pick it up. Driving to and from London pretty much wrote the day off
- During the time I was waiting for the car I tried to contact Acura, the wait time was so bad I was unable to connect for a few days.

Sorry about your dangerous experience.
I remember reading another TL owner having a unsafe situation on the highway also. Did you recieve the car back? If not Make sure there are no sounds, leaks, strange smells coming from the vehicle.
Wow, this could have turned out badly for you and the family, did they tell you what the problem was? or what caused it?
I have a friend who purchased a 2012 Civic Si and in the first month the car is burning oil,he has already taken it to the dealer twice and apparently Honda Canada is aware of this problem since there has been many complains regarding this issue.
Like the above poster said make sure that you inspect your car carefully.

The issue was "Engine Internal Failure" The problem was with the crankshaft and most of the bottom half of the engine had to be fixed/changed.
Acura is truely ruining the relationship.
