Driver Side Mirror rusty bottom edge

I am getting a slight rusty edge on my driver side mirror (SH-AWD 2009). Had the car for 2 winters but this winter was brutal (lots of snow). Has anyone had this before? Will it be covered by extended Acura warranty? The passenger side mirror appears to be ok.

The mirror housings on my 2009 RDX seem to be plastic, but I could be mistaken. Did you check your TL housings with a magnet? When I took apart my RDX mirror housing, the only metal was the screws.

Both of mine did this too.. Thought only the shitty German cars had this problem, now Acura too.. FML. Acura going to the dogs. And FWIW, I never use the heaters on mine. So the notion of 'leaving them on' has no effect in my case.. My mirrors in auto tilt on reverse also started clicking as if it can't tilt properly. another bullshit problem with this model year TL. The worst model year of any Honda I've owned.. BY FAR!

How the hell do you guys turn your heated mirrors off. My heated mirror is the same button as my rear defrost and generally that goes off after like 10 minutes of use automatically anyways.

I am going to chat with dealer. It does auto turn off which is why it's odd. It also only happened on one mirror.

I think maybe it clicks because the mirror is positioned too close one the car.. My driver side clicks ill double check the positions when I go back out.

Mine clicked because there ice was jammed on the lip of mirror and lip of housing. I had to carefully pry it out.

Exact same thing happened to mine this winter. Driver side only. Was anyone successful in getting the dealer to replace for free even if your car was out of warranty?

This is considered wear and tear so I paid it.

I did have extended warranty so they replaced my sticky door handle button because there was electronics in it during my last visit to the dealer.

Hi All, I'm new to the 4G, but these issues are similar to those with the 3G. In regards to justnspace's comment about turning it off, I assume it's more of a recommendation not to leave the defrost rear window/side mirrors function on until it turns off automatically, unless it's needed. Reason is that the heating element can burn the mirror, which causes the brown color that looks like rust. Yes, Honda/Acura may view this as a normal wear and tear, but good to ask the dealer to repair, if your TL is still under warranty.

As for the jerky motion when the mirror is adjusting, it sounds like the actuator needs to be replaced. I had both the driver's and passenger side mirror actuators replaced on my 3G under warranty. If you're not, it's an easy DIY, if the process is similar to the 3G. I haven't had a chance to review all the posts in the sticky threads.

On my 08 TL the dealer replaced the passenger side actuator under warranty. My '11 MDX passenger side is already acting up and I'll have the dealer replace or "fix" it from jerking when it tilts when going into reverse.
