A/C Problem

Leased my 2010 TL Tech in March. This summer here in NY has been very hot. I noticed that the A/C was not that cold. Put an instant read thermometer in the center vent, 48 degrees. Would not go any further . Tried everything auto, off auto nothing. The recirculation button lights up but when you press the button to turn off or on, no difference in fan speed nor do you hear the door closing. However when you have the a/c off and in the vent mode it works. crazy. My 06 TSX has none of these issues. a/c goes down to 40 easily. Took car to dealer and of course they say it is normal. Thats total BS and i told them that, Took the TL to my own mechanic. He evacuated the system and recharged. No difference. Went to another Acura dealer. The a/c in his TL went down to 40-42 degrees. They will check the a/c. Hopefully they will find the problem. The service advisor said there is a valve that allows hot water into the heater core and maybe it is not closed all the way. We will find out.

That's possible but relatively easy to verify: start the fan with AC off, auto off and the temperature on the coldest possible setting on a cool evening night and check the temperature of the air coming out of the vents after at least five minutes of operation: if it's coming out higher than the outside temperature a bit of hot water is seeping throuhg the heater matrix.

48 is definitely not enough. Usually in the low 40's close to 40. Take an infared temp gun to it and you'll be amazed at how cold the air coming out really is.

So went to the dealer today for the a/c. They evacuated the system and recharged it. The a/c drops to 44 then rises to 48 then back down etc. I think it should be better but it is colder than it was. They stated that the heater control valve was working ok. Who knows if they even checked it. It's been cool here in NY. Will know bettter when the hot weather returns.

The A/C works more efficiently when outside ambient is hot. These past days in the Northeast is horrible with temps under 70.

Wait until it's hot out (weatherman says next week) and test again.

You might be right that the AC system is more efficient in hot weather(provide a larger drop in temperature relative to ambient for less energy), but the hotter it is outside, the hotter the AC output will be.
