A/C Compressor Clutch/Relay Replacement 2009 Acura TL

Hello, My wifes 2009 Acura TL A/C has been intermittently working. Yesterday it finally stopped. I found a few good posts to help diagnose and it seems the compressor clutch or coil may be bad. I've attempted to hot jump the connector under the relay and do not hear the compressor engaging. I've tested the plug wire that goes to the compressor and can measure 12v when i hot jump and 0v with no jumper so i know its getting power to the compressor plug. I've found a few write ups for people replacing the compressor coil for the 2004 - 2008 TL here https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-p...-guide-772614/

and for the 2007 - 2012 RDX here https://acurazine.com/forums/1g-rdx-...ressor-862720/

is it a fairly similair project. i'm pretty mechanically inclined and do all my own diy repairs, timing belt, oil changes, alternator replacement etc. but having a hard time finding a good guide for this for this model 2009 TL. has anyone done this before can share any insight or part numbers etc? thank you for your time

Rick

do you have any a/c gauges to check the pressure? If it's too low or too high it'll prevent the A/C from turning on and the clutch from engaging.

If the system was run too low on refrigerant, there is a chance the compressor could have been damaged. It might be worth a trip to an A/C shop for them to check and see. Rockauto has the DENSO compressor for a reasonable price and you can have the shop put it in. If the old compressor was damaged internally, it may have sent metal shavings through the system requring the lines to be flushed and also the condenser replaced as that cannot be flushed and will trap and release some of the metal particles.

the system ran fine up until about a month ago when it became intermittent. I have performed troubleshooting that points to the ac coil that pulls the clutch in going bad so i'm gonna start with replacing that first as it's fairly cheap and it doesn't look to to difficult to swap out. I've hot wired 12v to the compressor coil plug and nothing is happening its not closing at all.

I was able to tackle this job today following the thread i posted in the OP. took about 3 hours. wasn't too bad. there was very limited room working in there at the front of the compressor on my 2009 TL v6. i had to use a wobble 10mm special socket to zap the first bolt of. hardest part was the C Clip removal and install. glad to have the air working again. Bought a rebuild kit on ebay for about $45 came with the coil, and clutch and pulley and bearing and extra c clips and shims. all in all i'm very happy. also used this video to see what the whole thing looked like
