ATF level...again!
ATF level...again!
After much thought, probably over thinking at this point....
I changed my atf the other day, I have the service manual and it states 3qts with drain and fill for 2010 sh-awd....
Put front end on jack stands and dropped the fluid. After I collected it, I measured what I drained and it was 3.7qts....hmmm
So I put 3.7 back in, I checked at 3 and it was way low, so I proceeded to put back in what I took out.
It still seemed low, so this morning I went on a 20 min drive and pulled in to the garage and checked level and it read at the bottom hole for hot reading. I decided to put more in, the remaining 4th quart which was about a 1/4 of the bottle brought the level just below the top hole....
The level needs to be in between the holes when hot...correct? So unless I am a complete retard, whatever it takes to get it to the proper level is what it takes...no?

The fluid should be between the 2 holes when the fluid is warm. I would suggest letting the car run for a few minutes and then check the atf dipstick within 90 seconds of turning the car off.
If you drained out 3.7, put back in 3.7 quarts! I guess tilting the car allows more fluid to drain out than what the service manual states. I needed to add 3.5 quarts to get the trans to read in the middle when I did my fluid change.
Overfilling the fluid isn't the end of the world, but it will have some noticeable effects. For example your car will seem "jumpy" off redlights or whenever you let off the brake and let the car idle in gear.
As long as the fluid isn't above the top hole, you are good to go!

I have had better success measuring the level in my transmission (2012+ 6sp) since I moved to a different house with a level driveway. I had been putting 3.5 quarts after a drain cuz I couldn't measure the level and the service manual stated 3.3 quarts to fill after a drain. Recently, It seems as if it requires 4 quarts to get to the full mark (2nd mark). I measured when the car had been driven for about an hour and I let it sit for about a minute or two, per the owner's manual. I've checked it two additional times this week and the level is holding at the full mark. Now granted the ambient temperature is a frigid 45 to 50 °F at night in South Lou-z-anna an night, just might effect the fluid temperature/level. I shall double check this fill level in the summer when the street asphalt melts.

Thanks guys...I would have to think I am good, my hot reading is just below the top hole...I was just ocd over the fact that it took 4 qts to get it there...seems having the front end up allows more fluid to drain, which I would think is a good thing
