Dark Knight Slow Progression Thread

So I finally decided to name my car and create a progression thread. I have never done any mods before and never thought about it until I joined AZ. I must admit this website has become a bad addiction for me because I can tell I am going to go broke (not really) after looking at other user's cars.

Current Mods
HIDExtra D2S replacement 8k bulb
HIDExtra HID fog lights 6k kit

Future Mods
Midnight Chrome grille
Midnight Chrome rear trim
Lamin-x Charcoal black tail lights
Lamin-x Charcoal black rear reflector

Possible Future Mods
RonJon body Kit
Black Rims (undecided on current mode)
Intake system (undecided on current mode)

i would first recommend you to take a closer look at how the RJ kit is installed before you pull the trigger to purchase.. the front lip looks good but the rest.. imo doesnt look that great.

ive seen it in person.. and im not a fan of the fitment.

you should color match rear and front trim and also always suspensions before rims if you plan to drop your car.

Nice looking ride!

Potmilkz is right about the RonJon kit. But.....it does look much better than the OEM kit. It is worth the hassle, in my opinion.

A compitent bodyshop can work it onto the car no issues. Problem with bodykits is that we have to rely on the 3rd party to finish off the look with quality and experienced craftsmanship. We work with bodyshops on a regular basis to help educate them on the tips and tricks to get everything to fit perfectly.

Call me if you have any questions.

Good luck on your build, planning makes a difference on the overall results, looks like you got your ducks lined up!

PS- Wheels and a grille / lip kit purchase bring in huge discounts.

For the amount you charge for the kit, no extra work should be needed

Please, let's not hijack this thread with this debate. But if you insist, the kit's do not come preprinted for many reasons like warranty, color matching and potential damage in transit.

Therefore we must rely on the professionalism and experience of said body shop. Even if it means the bodyshop painted the kit without primer (yes it has happened before), didn't know to use the oven for a few seconds to expand the part slightly (due to temperature changes according to region climate), use adhesive promoter or use release agent cleaner to remove any traces of a chemical used during injection molding to release the part from the mold.

I have personally dealt with over 1000 bodyshops in my company's lifetime, and whoa nelly have I got some nightmare stories to tell. I've had two bodyshops call in the same day to express that this was the best kit they ever installed and the other say they don't know why they are having a problem fitting the kit while it is 10 degrees outside where the kit is being worked on.

You may want to swap those seats out for black. I don't think your current matches very well. As a personal favor to you I'd be willing to swap my black interior for yours to help you get started out on the right foot.

^ Being sarcastic.... Look forward to seeing your progression. I wouldn't do the midnight chrome package though, especially with black wheels. Do the color match. Just my 2 cents.

I agree you should color match the front grille but I also like the black chrome piece on the back. Even if you debadge the rear and only leave the "A" the midnight chrome trim pieces blends in well.

I agree with potmilkz, get the drop first before the rims. RJ lip kit would look sick. Kinda pricey though. Shouldn't be an issue if you have the $$$ to burn. I personally like the contrast of the OEM grille and trim to the CBP color. It looks sharp IMO. Black chrome would look good on some machined face rims and it will stick out more w/ your car. Chrome rims are too flashly for my taste. Or you could go chrome lips with black wheels. Anyway, GL w/ your mods. Just giving you some more ideas.

The grille on a CBP 09'-11' TL stands out way too much without a color match, or RJ grille mod.

You could consider the OEM lip kit also.

Plasti dip my rims
6 coats of black and 3 coats of glossifier

close up still drying

I really like the overall look of the car now

I also added ExtraHID 8k low beams with the ExtraHID 6k fog lights

They don't match perfectly but its pretty darn close plus the iPhone camera doesn't do it justice.

i normally do not condone plastidip.. spraying $6 bottle on a 35k+ car is not my thing.. but please please! tell me you took off the wheel to plastidip.. it seems like you didnt since the lug nuts were covered as well..

btw black and black does not look all that great.. no contrast. makes it seem like your driving on doughnuts all the time trust me i have the same color and already tough about it.

Not a fan of the wheels but the lights look good. IMO you need to tape off the terminal on the turn signals though...no need for 6 lights up front.

Hi all, can anyone recommend the best sites to get grilles? In particular for 2012 TL. Thanks all!

Plastidip is completely removable and this is only temporary. I wasn't sure if I wanted black or chrome rims. I was leaning towards chrome but since I plastidip my wheels I will be going with black rims so relax guys. I glad I plastidip my wheels and decided I like them before wasting money and hating them.

washed and waxed

I-Four...A bit late to the party but congrats on the upgrades. I have not seen the Ron Jon kit in person myself so I can't really comment but I do know one thing, from his posts I have seen, he seems like a person with lots of integrity and one that stands behind his products if you ever go down that route. For me, both his kit and the OEM body kit have their strength and weakness so whichever you decide, I think you will be happy. The TL with a bodykit sure looks more aggressive.

As far as the rest of the mods, I love the fog lights....I didn't do anything like that to mine as I just lease my cars so I don't want to invest too much money on something I won't keep for very long. I do have one thing in common with you though, I do like giving my cars a name *lol*

As for future mods....what is next for you?

Thanks everybody for the positive and negative feedback. The next mod up is blacking out the tail lights. Not sure if I am going to go with lamin-x or purchase smoked tail lights.

Too dark for my taste...be careful..laminex will crack your lights..I had it it on my car and strength of adhesive started to crack both my headlights and tailights..I filed claim with laminex and they replaced both...PIA

right on with the mods...but, me, personally...I'm just not into the whole black on black...even when it was "cool" about 8 yrs. ago...like Potz said, you need CONTRAST.
