No, you are wrong. All I have to do is look at the Takeda Intake and see the hole where you disconnect the factory MAF sensor to put it into the new intake to know that the TL has a MAF sensor. MAP sensors are for older Acura/Hondas

I'm pretty sure we use both a MAF and a MAP sensor.

First time poster.

I'm glad I checked out this site. I've been wanting to up the HP a little on my 09 AWD and looks like I've found the right place.

I have a history building up GM engines and did some tuning on a LS1 I owned, first with LS1 Edit and then with HP Tuners when they started out.

The ECU shouldn't have to make much of an adjustment for an intake since it's still accurately measuring airflow into the engine. If you were to modify the MAF I could see the increase diminish fairly rapidly but that's not the case. In the LS world we saw this happen with ported MAFs. When first installed the extra unmeasured airflow leaned the engine and the ECU would try to compensate and eventually would adjust and return the AF back to normal. We could see this happen with the L-trims (Long term AF trim). We did not see any performance gain lost when swapping out the air lid which is equivalent to the air intake in this case. I would tune the AF with the ported ends installed and set the target AF leaner for more HP so the ECU wouldn't try and trim the AF richer. I also used a wide-band O2 so I could tune WOT.

What does the intake do to your gas mileage? I wanted an MDX but the wifey wanted better gas mileage. I told her that I would "suffer" and get the TL SH-AWD. I don't tell her I am probably getting worse mileage because I can't keep the peddle off the floor.

Just installed my takeda and I must say the instructions could have been a bit better. It would have been nice if the instructions had said remove, "metal coolant line". I did not realize this until near the end of the install. Cold have saved 30min of time. I also recommend that you use a screwdriver to help "Push" the hoses off.

As been already said, the sound is nice. Adds a bit of excitement to the driving experience.
Hard for me to say if there is any HP improvement since I have very little seat time in my TL. It does appear my gas mileage has improved. I like the fact that normal driving the car is still very quit. I had some concerns there.

After reading four pages of favorable reviews for the Takeda intake, it's hard to resist not having one! If I get one, I'll have to install it in the middle of the night since my wife would kill me modding a perfectly fine car...ha

can anyone post up another video of what the intake sounds like? I tried watching the video of the dyno run, but it had been pulled down. Preferably on the 3.7L motor

does anyone know if this puppy will fit 09 RL? I'm assuming the engine and most other things are the same as AWD TL...

I contacted VisionaryRacing about their AEM cai and they said there's no reason for it not to fit...and it didn't

So now I'm taking it a bit slower.

Installed my intake this past weekend ('09 SH-AWD). Car feels slightly different off the line, but absolutely has more pep at highway speeds.

While idling and tooling around town, the car doesn't sound all that much different while driving, when you get on the pedal though, wow, what a difference. The engine sounds much more pronounced and has a definite growl.

Not sure how it has affected gas mileage yet.

who did you order from, how much, any special instructions?

was it a direct fit?

I definitely want to know about the gas consumption as my RL is giving me low teens in NY driving...

I got it from excelerateperformance.com (the thread starter).

No special instructions--the ones included with the kit are basically perfect. And yes, it was a direct fit. It included the correct adapter for the 3.7 in the SH-AWD.

lol.. i couldnt wait for Comptech... they said its already been designed , but they gave me no ETA on production.. not even a ballpark... so i gave up.. i could always sell the Takeda if i like the ct-engineering design more

Does everybody else have the intake whistle sound? both my 3Gs had it... i just wanted to make sure i tighten the TB spacer enough, and all clamps are tightened properly

I just got my intake last night and I plan on installing it tomorrow. In the packaging included in the two hoses (5/8" and 5/16") bag I notice an 8" piece of rubber in the shape of a 'U". After reading the installation instruction I didn't see where is piece comes into play. Any thoughts?

So I wonder how each performance part did exclusively for you? I'm hesitant about the TB spacer. I don't understand how a 3/4" piece of metal could REALLY increase hp, tq and fuel economy. What are your thoughts?

That 8" hose is some type of breather. Its in the instructions. It connects to the pipe coming out of the tube.

I wonder about the spacer too.

I see what you mean about removing the metal coolant line. So basically that two-tube metal coolant line needs to be completely removed and replaced with those two rubber hoses provided correct?

I have the whistle sound, its not that loud and I can only hear it with the windows down.

I would wager the majority of what Blackura is feeling is the spacer, but I can't say for sure as I'm not as familiar with how this engine responds to mods.

In my Z, the spacer was the best dollar-per-hp gain mod I ever did. Doing it at the same time as an intake is smart though.

The Rubber U pieces, wraps around the metal bracket/frame.. to avoid contact with the battery

Yup... the two oem pipes are connected via that metal piece (just like the 3G) remove, and replace with the two provided hoses... carefuly, a little bit of coolant will leak

I always like to do the intake/spacer/gaskets at the same time... it made for a HUGE power increase IMO... i would say if i was to have done pre-post dynos, i would have gained anywhere between 13-18whp for all the pieces together
