Intake runner control mod

Was wondering if anyone has toyed with the operation of the intake runner control solenoid. My 2011 TL runs so much better above 3,000 RPM (when the runners open) and I was curious as to whether making them open sooner would be a matter of simply changing the voltage to the solenoid (I.e. increase it per a given RPM) and whether this would cause any unforeseen issues.

if you look at the engine, on the pass side of the intake manifold is the little motor that controls the flap. Simply leave turn it open and disconnect the solenoid so it never closes...

I think this will set a "check engine" code

When I was doing some testing, I just unbolted butterfly actuator (left it connected), zip tied butterfly in open position. No codes.

Not mine. Something dramatic is happening at 3,000 RPMs, and it isn't the VTEC.

ECU is tuned to run leaner for better emissions... do you have a tuner installed or stock tune?

Stock. I didn't realize there was an aftermarket solution for our vehicles, or that it made much difference.

Interesting, this is not what I encountered when we were tuning my MDX and TL. They were running on rich side from factory.
