How tunable is this car?

I currently drive a 400+ whp 07 Civic Si that I'm looking to sell. My next car absolutely must be AWD and manual. For a while i was set on buying an evo as I want my next car to be a tuner car, but I was super underwhelmed with the performance and interior of a 30k+ car.

I decided to upscale it a bit and looked into the G37, but after finding out the AWD version of it isn't available in manual, I've moved on. Now I'm on the TL, which looks like a solid contender. My only concern is that i can't make this car the kind of rocket I want to in the future. Do TL's tend to have a solid aftermarket? It seems rather lacking right now, and I'm kind of confused as to why considering Flashpro is out for this car. I would've thought more aftermarket companies were jumping on it. Anyone else cross-shop this current TL with more sport-oriented cars?

I did similar research before picking up the SH-AWD 6 spd M/T but it being tunable and having a large array of performance mods was not a deal breaker for me (I will save a lot of money in the long run since they are not available). It seems that the only performance mods you will find is exhaust mods and CAI. None of which are readily tunable by the lack of FlashPro compatibility for the 4G's.

Heres a few threads you may find useful.

Tuning option thread (Dont expect much)

Supercharger!! You can't buy it because there's no tuning

you will dump thousands into it to make it marginally faster.

Ah, I didn't know Flashpro wasn't out for this car.... Explains the lacking aftermarket. Is hondata planning on releasing it for this gen tl?

Fair enough, I waited several years for Flashpro to come out for my current SI. I guess I'll go check this car out and give it a test drive this week

Ah. I donno how that relates to me, lol. 400+ whp is very common in a turbo'd 6th gen SI. Username on here is the same on 8th if anyone feels the need to verify me. Donno where that dude got 700 from

Why do you guys care about this guys Honda Civic and whether it has 400whp or not?

OP the TL doesn't have the kind of aftermarket support that will make it into a rocket. FI isn't common with the TL so kits just aren't produced for it, everything would have to be custom fabricated. Also as Potmilkz said tuning would also be a big issue with no aftermarket support. I would say the TL isn't the platform you're looking for.

Yeah, I'm torn, donno where to go. The Evo has such a crappy interior and the transmission feels like total dog shit, I'm not sure if I can go from a Honda transmission to that car and be happy with it. Feels like I'm driving a dodge stratus.

I haven't driven the TL, but I already know how nice of a car it would be. I just donno if on the opposite end of the spectrum, I'd be ok with a car that isn't mod-friendly. I spoke to Hondata and they said they had no plans for this car. They also said the same thing about my Civic several years ago, so who knows with them.

Potmilkz, get over the Civic. Look at my build thread on 8th if you're that interested in it. 5857 K20 + 14 lbs of boost = lots of horsepowers.

when you post statements like that.. expect people to ask questions.. dont post if you do not plan to talk about it.. just saying..

go with what everyone is doing these days.. pick up a fr-s like all the young kids these days and tinker with it..

Lol, young kids, I'm <1 year younger than you.. but sure. Also, I made one statement about the car I currently have to show where I'd like to take my next car. I don't need to justify anything to you, believe me or don't, I'll still sleep the same tonight

Hey, I wouldn't mind playing with an FRS/BRZ...and I'm almost a decade older than you guys. Although, it definitely wouldn't be my DD.

And yes, a Civic done right can definitely push 400 whp. Goodluck on your car search, I Vtec! The TL is definitely an awesome machine, just not something you can mod heavily and be satisfied with.

OP,

Although my 08 Si coupe was not a 400hp Turbo Monster ( Been down this road 00 civic Si with b18 swapped t3/t4 turboed car) I literally just came from an 08 Civic Si two weeks ago to a 2012 TL SH- AWD 6MT. Here is what I can say. From what I can see aftermarket support is pretty weak. I was initially disappointed, but after two weeks of driving this car I can honestly say I have no regrets. The Car is SO QUIET. Something that has never been a big deal to me, but man is it nice as I quickly approach 30. the interior is top notch and the ELS audio isn't half bad for being a stock audio system. The AWD system is excellent, don't get the typical torque steer of fwd(duh), car pulls strong for a 4000lb luxury sedan. My wife still drives our other 08 civic Si and i was quite disappointed driving it to work today. Feel free to pm me if you want further comparisons or have any questions. I am a honda / acura guy through and through.

How new does the car need to be?
And how much do you want to spend?

How about an M3?

Ideally I'd like it to be a 2010+ and ~25k +/- 3k. An m3 would be awesome, but I'd like to avoid BMW in general just because the maintenance is killer.

And if you get a BMW you would have to change your UN to "I don't vtec, do you?".

Not mod friendly car, but a set of proper forged wheels, catback, and coils sets this car apart as a daily driver. AND trust me when I say you'll find it to your liking.

If you are looking I'm selling my 09 TL 3.5L FWD. My wife uses it as an errand vehicle a few times a month to keep it healthy.
