Exhaust's for 4G
#41
J-Pipe and Race Pipe prototypes have been installed. No Dyno has been done yet, but we should be knocking that out in the upcoming weeks. Mid and High range gains are very noticable. I am very happy with the prototype, a few adjustments to the J-pipe are needed from a fitment standpoint but Mike already has a fix for the final product.
Exhaust note is good. A throaty sound, which I think sounds very aggressive. Only noticable when you step on it.

more details, please
Is there a Resonater? Mid Muffler? Single pipe back with a Y-pipe, or almost "true-dual"
Pictures of the tips?

For this process he is doing each piece individually, so we started with the J-Pipe fitting, I went back a few weeks later and had the J-Pipe installed. He is still working on the final product. As for the race pipe he took some stock pieces off to use to make the prototype for the 4G. He put on a race pipe in the interim, which I am assuming may be the same race pipe as he is using on the 3G.
Next will be the mufflers and tips. I am not really sure what direction Mike is leaning towards going as far as the design in concerned, so I will defer to his response.
Mike took all the pictures during my last visit, so hopefully he posts them on here soon.
No drone with the current set-up I have.

Id love to see some kind of quad muffler tips like the kind seen on the 3G Type S. I think it really give the 4G the kind of performance look plus the agressive sound would put some people on the edge of their seats.

I just wanted to honestly see, the kind of interest there would be in developing an exhaust for the 4G....
Maybe if the list is long enough, some of the Vendors on here like XLR8 or ATLP would maybe move some of their interest/time into creating an developing an exhaust system
Obivously, there are two different exhausts that would need to be made... the FWD & AWD cars are completely different exhaust systems (not just the tips).. The AWD, is almost true dual, so a lot more material would be needed... and the cost would be higher...
I would Imagine a FWD Exhaust system would range about $1000-$1100 MSRP (probably a discount for a group buy//first 10 people to put a deposit down)
The AWD system, would most likely be around $1200-$1400, and be able to provide a monstrous sound with maximum power gains.
The costs may seem high, but you pay for what you get... and both XLR8 & ATLP make a VERY high quality exhaust system
I figured this thread, we can all make comments, opinions or give input on the development of an exhaust system..... AND, maybe a get a list of people who would be committing to paying the price tag, and getting involved in some type of group buy.
Let's hope the vendors get involved in these threads, and provide some realistic possibilities!!

CT Engineering
You guys should wait around for a little bit; I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be saying anything, but CT Engineering has something in the mix. LET ME TELL YOU, my jaw DROPPED when I saw the prototype pictures. Lucky a*$ 4Gers...lol ![Thumbs Up](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
(If you see this, sorry Rob, I couldn't keep my mouth shut

I would love a CT option, they just always seem to be last to the party. We have been hearing about an ice box intake for a while, still no updates on that product.

For the 3G....well, in terms of exhaust, CT (at the time, comptech) was the 1st to produce anything.... i had a Comptech Exhaust on my UA6, and i absolutely loved it... it was definitely more conservative and humble than my ATLP, but definitely not a pushover at all
I just cant wait to see whos gonna be the first to drop the product for the 4G

For an Acura newbie (my last three cars were german sports-sedans with AWD, 6MT, 6 cylinders and gobs of low end torque), what is an "ice box" and who is CT? My 2010 TL SH-AWD 6MT has oodles of go from maybe 4500 to 6700 (redline), and frustratingly close to minivan-like acceleration at the 2K to 4K range.

Ice box is CT-Engineering (Formerly Comptech) form of an intake. Usually, a great product.
Also, there exhaust is another great product. Its a luxury/touring type, that usually includes a mid-muffler, to eliminate drone, rasp and excessive noise..
As for your Low end problem. Any intake will help remove that "Lag".... As for now, the only one available is the Takeda Intake, which once installed, RIPPED open my low end acceleration... huge difference, investment well worth it
AEM will most likely be producing a Cold Air intake soon, which will probably yield 2-3hp more than Takeda's Intake

back at ATLP tommorow for install of a new j-pipe (fixed some fitment issues) and new race pipe. Maybe some dyno as well. Updates coming soon.

No real updates. We met yesterday and fell short on time so we didn't dyno. The new j-pipe and race pipe was installed and based on only feel, the
new pipe feels more powerful in low range and more torque in mid to high range than the previous pipes. The slight fitment issues from the first pipe were fixed. Hoping to meet back up in a few weeks to dyno.

I think the whole project is close to completion. After thursday testing it will be one week for the exhaust piping and tips to be completed, that just leaves an install and final dyno and it should be complete.

dyno was completed last week, mike has the results, I don't have them as I wasn't there to observe, I just dropped my car off for the day. Did some measuring for the final piping and tips. I was told about a week until a final test fitment. The end result will be amazing.

Oh wait... this won't be for AWD right? FWD has a different piping?

interesting thread. I think the big issue is going to be creating an exhaust sound that will agree with the majority of TL owners. Seems like the popular opinion is something deep and sporty that is easily controllable.

Yes sound is a major focus area from atlp. this will not sound like their 3G exhaust. When I had the J-pipe and race pipe on, I had no drone, and very sound in the mid to high range.

I spoke with ATLP yesterday and it seems that the jpipe and race pipe combo made a good bump in power. The exhaust proto should be ready soon as well. I think we are going to get ready for some presales soon here. THose confident in ATLP's ability to make a great looking and great sounding system will get a little incentive for committing early. The 3G systems are really in demand. Every time we get a dozen or so they are GONE.
