Exhaust's for 4G

I just wanted to honestly see, the kind of interest there would be in developing an exhaust for the 4G....

Maybe if the list is long enough, some of the Vendors on here like XLR8 or ATLP would maybe move some of their interest/time into creating an developing an exhaust system

Obivously, there are two different exhausts that would need to be made... the FWD & AWD cars are completely different exhaust systems (not just the tips).. The AWD, is almost true dual, so a lot more material would be needed... and the cost would be higher...

I would Imagine a FWD Exhaust system would range about $1000-$1100 MSRP (probably a discount for a group buy//first 10 people to put a deposit down)

The AWD system, would most likely be around $1200-$1400, and be able to provide a monstrous sound with maximum power gains.

The costs may seem high, but you pay for what you get... and both XLR8 & ATLP make a VERY high quality exhaust system

I figured this thread, we can all make comments, opinions or give input on the development of an exhaust system..... AND, maybe a get a list of people who would be committing to paying the price tag, and getting involved in some type of group buy.

Let's hope the vendors get involved in these threads, and provide some realistic possibilities!!

I would be interested but first I would have to see what type of gains (hp/tq) and exhaust note would be possible before dropping a grand plus.

Do you think that companies won't produce an exhaust for this car unless they first figure out how to make a type of "headers" for the engine? The gains on an exhaust from the cat-back, might not make alot of HP and TQ if something isn't done about the pre-cats as well as the secondary cat.

If there were definite HP gains, I would be in.

We definitely are interested in doing a catback exhaust but we need volunteers in the Phoenix, AZ area and we need to figure out which exhaust to do first: FWD or AWD.

I'm in for a system that is very quiet, this is a luxury sedan and some of the stuff I heard on the 3G side is WAY too loud. Also it's not totally necessary to produce a dual pipe catback for the AWD, that's just how Acura designed it because of the driveshaft going down the middle and for performance reason. We could just go with like 3" mid section that is offset for the driveshaft.

Nice!! Seems like the AWD is getting a lot of response

I am with Jeremy (CleanCL) ... The 3G exhausts were definitely a little too loud for my liking... I would think something along the lines of the Comptech or Tanabe systems, where there is some type of mid-muffler or resonator.

Any exhaust system (when properly engineered) will be yielding at least 10-14whp/wtq ... ESPECIALLY on the 3.7L Engine

Either way, I am DEFINITELY IN !!!!

When I spoke with Mike he said the 4G exhausts would be ALOT more quiet than previous generations. Your right a tanabe sound would be perfect.

Haha True Dual would be awesome..... BUT...

CleanCL has already taken a look at the exhaust system, and discussed with Josh @ Excelerate

In order to have a "TRUE" dual exhaust system, we would need a new J-pipe

Currently, the J-Pipe on the 4G, is similar to the 3G... two inlets from the two primary cats, merge into one outlet... then, from that one outlet, it splits into the "semi-true" dual exhaust....

So, we would need a J-Pipe, that flows air from each primary cat, into a seperate exhaust pipe....

Cost on something like that (again, i am just guessing) would be upwards of like $1700-$1900 for the J-Pipe & Exhaust

Of course, with a properly engineering piece, it would be safe to say that gains would be in excess of 25+ whp/ 25+ wtq (again, just an assumption) but a pretty accurate one IMO

For all those who know their Hondas well... the ULEV2 system, makes for amazing fuel efficiency...

Honda J series engines are high-end power, SOHC engines that are capable of making great power... but Honda, goes and restricts the exhaust system to aid in reduced emissions and increased fuel efficiency (hence the THREE catalytic converters and no true exhaust header)

My 3G Type-S, with just replaced exhaust compents (pre-cats, j-pipe, exhaust) helped me gain almost 40whp PEAK (key word is peak)... still, an incredible increase for about $1,700 worth of exhaust equipment

The J37A4, is Hondas biggest engine yet... and surely, once we start tweaking it and modifying it... it has the potential to achieve 350-360hp N/A.... Boosted? is a whole other world

People have boosted J32's & J35's into 350whp...

I think all the 4G members agree.... Nothing too loud... My last 3G, was a monster... you can hear it starting from a 1/4 mile away (no lies!!)

I guess the next, most important step.. is to find a volunteer in the Phoenix, AZ area for XLR8 to start development!!!

Question Mad for power

Love my new G4 AWD. I live on a carribean island with lots of mountain twisting roads. Elevation variations of sea level to +3000 feet to sea level in 35 miles distance. What a joy to drive the AWD in. Is there any upgrading of HP that I can do without losing the cars garantees?

Personally I would rather do a custom exhaust. Brand new 2.5 to 2.75 inch pipping after the first resignator down to 2 spintech mufflers would sound INSANE...thats my future mood btw =]

I did some custom work on mine. I first swapped out the mufflers with some Magnaflow's. The drone was nasty. We then swapped out the resonators (the stocks are pretty much straigh through) with some other ones. Still the drone was there. I ended up removing the the resonators all together and putting the stock mufflers back on. Sounds better than stock and no drone.

The drone was most noticable when cruzing in 5th around town at 40-45 mph. So loud you could not carry on a conversation with the windows up. The problem is you cannot put anything longer than a 16" muffler in the back due to the space provided.

Hey Mike--

Are you going to keep it in line with the FWD exhaust (single pipe) or similar to the AWD version? I would rather pay more, for an "almost" true dual exhaust

The problem with aftermarket exhausts is the dreaded drone. This is and will always be an issue unless some major R&D is done to reduce this.

I actually like the current sound of the AWD. I don't know if the 6sp sounds any different from the 5AT but I think it is throaty when wanted. I would be thrilled with another 40-50 HP but that is usually rare with JUST and exhaust change. You would need a CAI and software to really take advantage of the added airflow. I'm very interested to see how this develops.

J-Pipe and Race Pipe prototypes have been installed. No Dyno has been done yet, but we should be knocking that out in the upcoming weeks. Mid and High range gains are very noticable. I am very happy with the prototype, a few adjustments to the J-pipe are needed from a fitment standpoint but Mike already has a fix for the final product.

Exhaust note is good. A throaty sound, which I think sounds very aggressive. Only noticable when you step on it.
