EBC Stage 4 Brake Kit

Just installed the EBC Stage 4 kit. It comes with painted and slotted rotors and red stuff brake pads. I drove around for a bit and the pad's contact areas on the rotors removed the black paint. I will be bedding the pads in about 300miles. But so far I am very happy with the stopping power and appearance of the brake kit.

Kit was purchased from Amazon for just under $300 shipped.

Not E-bay...EBC brake components are made in the UK (rotors) and in the USA (pads). They make brakes for motorcycles, cars, trucks, trains even windmills. Probably, one of the best brake manufacturers out there - don't let the shiny black/red paint fool you.

No experience with Red stuff, but Yellow is way too dusty.

Can you post a photo of the rotors in about a week, if you don't mind?

The picture is not of the best quality but you could see how the black coating has been scraped off by the pads. What I have now is a shiny surface area where the pad touches the rotor (the rest of the rotor has remained black). No signs of rust anywhere on the rotor and I happy to report that the stopping power of this setup definitely feels stronger than the OEM. I am also told by EBC that after I complete the bed-in procedure and after about 1000 miles the stopping power will further improve.

I also flushed the brake fluid and replaced it with Motul Dot 5.1

https://www.motul.com/us/en-us/produ...-1-brake-fluid

The old fluid was dark brown (probably never flushed since the car was bought in 2009). The Motul dot 5.1 is almost completely clear and colorless. Flushing was super easy and took about an hour. I didn't have to remove the front tires to do it (just jack the car a bit and turn the wheel to access the bleeder). I did have to remove the rear tires though to get access.

They look good! Anything that gets rid of the rust on the stock rotors!

Not sure to be honest. When time came to replace the old rotors, I just looked for a good deal. I found these EBCs at a decent price and read a lot of good reviews so I pulled the trigger.

I'm planning to do the same. How much brake fluid it took to fill it back?

You need approximately 1 quart of brake fluid to do a decent fluid change. You replace the fluid the same way you would bleed the system. Unscrew the bleeder bolt on each caliper one by one and have someone pump the brakes. Old fluid will come out. After about 10-15 pumps check the level and add new fluid. Make sure the level never reaches the minimum line so that there is no air sucked into the system.

and the only time you'll be saving weight with rotors is if you move to a 2 piece rotor.

Now that the black coating is rubbed off. Any signs of rust?

How are the Red Pads performing?.

Just a FYI on the brake fluid. Motul claims their brake fluid is 100% synthetic. BFD, ALL brake fluids are synthetic. And basketballs are round. Just saying.

Another comment. One parameter for brake performance is rotor mass. The higher the mass (thermal mass that is) the better able the rotor to absorb heat without warping or over stressing. I don't like changing rotors every 3-6 months so I want the highest mass rotors I can find.

There are no signs of rust. The rotors look clean and the black coating on the non-contact areas is still intact.

There was a lot of dust for the first 500 or so miles but now the dust is minimal. I suppose some of the dust came from the rotors' coating which is now completely gone from the contact areas. Stopping power is noticeably better but I can't really compare it to the stock pads as my old pads were worn off. Noise is minimal as well. Overall, I am very happy with my setup as it looks clean and does a good job stopping this monster of a car.
