I would just stick with the filter. Aftermarket ones usually aren't very 'cold'.

Any differences you felt were entirely in your mind; a K&N is a waste of money.

These cars do not have any real cold air intake options. The intakes from K&N and Takeda both sit in the engine bay, and are my go to recommendations. While intakes that sit in the engine bay are more susceptible to heat soak (since they're pulling warmer air from under the hood rather than cooler air down in the fender) they can still be beneficial depending on what you are looking to accomplish!

For example Takeda had measured max gains of 14hp/14ft-lbs on their dyno. This number does not come from installing an intake on an all stock vehicle (so not everyone can or should expect this), but on one with supporting mods like HFPCs, Jpipe, catback, and etc. As you begin to eliminate restrictions on the exhaust side, the intake side becomes your limiting factor when trying to free up all the power possible. Pairing a larger throttle body with an intake, and some plenum spacers, does make for quite a difference.

Aside from power, one of the above intakes will provide some "whooshy" feedback noises as you press on the pedal, and a modified look under the hood. For some people these benefits are enough alone!

If you do not have a Jpipe on the car already, I would recommend starting there. The Jpipe frees up a huge restriction on these cars, offers a subtle modified sound, and is close enough to the intakes in price. You can find the Jpipe for your vehicle on our website HERE.

Feel free to send us a PM if you need help getting setup. Happy modding!

waste of money 🤷🏻‍♂️

In my honest opinion i don’t the no it’s financially worth it too even mod your TL, i personally drive a 07 TL Type s which has basically the exact motor as the base 4th gen TL in an even lighter shell. here’s my point; there’s a guy around my town (spartanburg, SC) who has a full bolt on 4th gen TL (short ram intake, j37 intake plenum, j37 throttle body, throttle body spacer, intake plenum spacer, pre cat deletes, j pipe, and 3” from the j pipe back, Lightweight crank pulley, egr valve block plate, and it’s tuned on a k tuner, so pretty much basically everything he can do N/A now keep in mind both our cars are 5AT, FWD, 3.5 j series mine is bone stock his car is the definition of FULL BOLT ON AND TUNED, and when we race he barely pulls on me, i have a video too prove it also, we ran from a 40 and from a dig i only have a video of the race from the dig but the results were the same, he pulls ahead as we hit high speeds... we went on green by the way. i’m proud of my TL, it surprised me for being bone stock compared to the amount of money and time put into modding the other TL

This is my 2007 Acura TL type s

This the other guys FBO 2012 TL base, looks sweet tho

Well it is the same engine after all. It makes sense considering the 4G is heavier.

You have to mod these cars for the enjoyment of it and not because you want to be super fast and beat everyone on the streets. That ain't going to happen for any fbo NA engine.

Keep in mind your type s is the top model of the 3G and your racing the base model of the 4G.

Keep in mind alot of people lie about what they have done. Personally his car sounds way to quite to have pre cat deletes and jpipe and a 3" outlet there is just no way. Both FWD he could of had traction on and sport mode off. There are mods he has done that shouldn't even be done to begin with like the pulley and the egr block off. Fighting against the design can ruin a motor, that's 100% imo. Intakes and exhausts don't do much but help with the flow, adding a j37 intake and throttle will not do anything even when flashed unless tuned by a professional. And even then even if the gains are let's say 20whp does that make up the 100lbs his car has on yours plus wheels his look really heavy, his body mass compared to yours. Weight is a huge key to times. Weight to power ratio is always the factor. Also keep in mind the FWD 4g TL trans was not built to put out more power it is just really sluggish as stated in posted from 10 years ago.

His 4g is only 100lbs over the 3gs curbweight. Now who is to say their body mass doesn't even rhat out, or say one guy reduced weight, who has after market wheels, who are heavier. There is alot at play in this case their curb weight is not far off. Technically the 3g has a sunroof and it seems the 4g does not that alone would even out their weight. But those chrome wheels look so heavy who knows honestly.
