Using Nav in Italy?

I have a customer in the military and will be going to Italy for a few years with her 2010 TL Tech. I know the disc for the U.S. will not work and the TL is not sold there. But would another disc for a car sold there work? Possibly the Honda Legend? Anyone know the answer to this? Thanks in advance.

There is no disk for the DVD like there used to be on the 3G TL. It's all HDD based. I don't believe there is going to be a compatible navi upgrade that will work in the EU.

LOL Sorry, I know there isn't a disk anymore. I should've asked for a different map other than a North American map. Is there a way to use a Europe map in the car?

I don't think there is a map built in outside the North American Map (IE US & Canada, not sure about Mex).

The only map upgrade I've seen looks to be NA only. I doubt they would ever create a map upgrade for outside North America (since they don't sell outside NA).

And actually, when I bought my car a few weeks ago I had to sign an agreement saying I would not take my car out of North America.

Any news about downloading European maps in our Navi units? I haven't asked the dealer yet... thought about asking the audience first

What would compel one to sign such an agreement? I could see if it was leased, but if you buy a car, it's yours. Do what you want with it (subject to import laws).

if its fully paid off you can do whatever you want with it.. if it has money still owed.. lease or finance.. then you cannot take it out of north america

Since navi is hdd based, I would just go with simple solution, $100 for portable Garmin or whatever brand you like

So I guess nobody has taken their TL overseas for a long period of time. Yeah, the $100 portable is a solution, actually no need to since I got a gps app on my iphone for Europe.

But it would be nice if there was a way to download European maps.

I have a theory I am trying to confirm. Since the current Acura RL is available in Europe as Honda Legend and assuming the current generations of TL and RL have the same navi system (that is the theory!), then any Honda dealer in Europe can update the TL with the European maps for western and eastern Europe available for the Legend. Any thoughts on that one? I'll do a search on European forums that talk about the Honda Legend to get part numbers of navi system components and compare with the TL ones.

Tony, I'm assuming that you have never been to Italy. A TL is not a suitable ride for Italy, nor cost effective. $$$$$$ It would be like sending 2 TL's over. Not to mention how long it takes (boat). Why would you pay for your car twice?

SAVE YOUR MONEY

and rent a really nice Alfa.

You have a point. Some streets are too narrow for the TL and gas is super expensive over there. Wish we could all import a 1.4L turbo Alfa MiTo some day

Hi Tony, this is not possible. Navigation unit for America and Europe differ in hardware and firmware. The attempt to force a boot disk with European maps in navigation unit Acura TL will lead to dire consequences. Unfortunately, there are those who tested it in practice

I know the newest Honda in Europe have HDD Navigation, too. Also the TL is availible in China.
So there is a posibility to get an other Navigation Software/Firmware for the TL.

Guys,
Next year Acura is showing up in Europe oficcialy and maybe we will have navi upgrade. Let's see.

For the moment the only way is to install 3d party PC and to hook it into stock NAVI.
