I've tried, the prompt says nothing available at this time, but I don't even know if Gracenote works or not?

page 340:

You can update the Gracenote
Album Info (Gracenote Media
Database) that is included with the
navigation system.
Consult your dealer, or visit
(in U.S.), or
(in Canada), to acquire
updated files.
Insert the update disc into the disc
slot, or connect the USB flash
memory device that includes the
update.
You can check the HDD Audio
capacity and remaining space as well
as the Gracenote Music Recognition
Service (CDDB) version included
Push the interface selector down
to display AUDIO MENU.
Turn the interface dial and select
Get Album Info, then press
ENTER on the interface selector.
On the Select an Album screen,
turn the interface dial and select
the title information for the
Original Playlist, then press
ENTER on the interface selector.
You will be returned to the Audio
Menu screen. 1.

update gracenote

I'm sure it will work but acura evidently hasn't released any update files yet. My acura says to check back later for update. I have not been able to find any information on gracenote update at acura.com . Owners manual tell you to go acura.com for update.

I don't get the Gracenote feature. I've had my TL-AWD for about a week, and so far the system doesn't recognize any CD's I've played. When I make the selection on the audio system to check for updated info, it tells me none is available. Is there some file I'm supposed to get from my dealer on a disc or flash drive to update the database? Is it downloadable from the Acura site?

Looks like we are at the mercy of Acura. That kind of sucks, while the Infiniti way is more cumbersome as it does not update the Gracenote database, it at least allows you to dump info to the flash and take it to a computer to update and then repopulate the music box, I can't see sitting in the car and editing each track that is not in gracenotes via the control knob in the TL. The idea of updating the entire gracenote databse is great, but they shoudl have provided an offline mechanism as well.

Are they CD's you made or CD's you bought?

Purchased cd's. I would not expect the system to recognize home made boots.

Got this from the myacura.com site:

"To ensure your audio system recognizes the latest releases, it is recommended you update the Gracenote database quarterly. Please check this site again for information on how to update the Gracenote database."

GMfeld, check our other posts of the DVD-A, CD's and HDD in the 4G TL. Not only do we expect the homemade CD's to work, they actually do work!

From the acura website...

Gracenote Inc. maintains an extensive database of compact disc artist and track title information. The 2009 TL with Technology Package Hard Disc Drive (HDD) is equipped with a Gracenote database so that song, artist and album information from an inserted CD can be displayed and used for music search if the CD is ripped onto the HDD. The database is up to date from the period of the vehicle's production. Updates will be available from Gracenote on a quarterly basis. More information on how to download Gracenote updates will soon be available.

I get about as much use out of the HDD/grace note as I do from the DVD-A. interesting idea - but the whole grace note deal is like updating a vcr player w/ a built in dvd burner. and we all know the DVD-A sounds great - as long your musical tastes are limited to the few same old titles.

I have found a link for a gracenote database if anyone wants to try it...

http://ds1.downloadtech.net/cn1010/g...08-01-0030.zip

I know its for pioneer, but you should be able to unzip it, burn to a CD and load it to the HD...

Gracenotes Version

My HDD system reports the Gracenotes version to be "08.06.0005". It sounds like a later version than the .zip download of "08.01.003" recommended above.

Ah thanks buck. Man, that's a slow ass download from that server! 135KB/sec? I spit faster than that. A valid question from CRXB, what part of the database was updated? I don't put in enough commercial stuff in the Nav to differentiate what has changed? We all purchased the car after that database update so is this really necessary?

I tried this upgrade and it did not work. :-(

Too bad, it seems much newer. I thought about editing the text file to the same as the other release, but I can wait for the next release.

I just did the update and it worked fine, it did recognize cd's that it had not found before. the version I updated we 08 06 0020, which was higher than the 08 06 0005 I started with. I dont buy the date of sept 08, because my car was built in Dec 08 and it had 08 06 005.. Anyway, I found the down load at acura.com (not myacura)... go to acura store in lower right hand corner of home page.... then click on shop "navigation dvd".... it will then show a gracenote download follow the direction for there and all is cool

Does the gracenote update try and update CDs you already ripped to the HDD that were not recognized? I ripped a few, just edited the Album title and artist so I could find them, but all the trakc s are NO TITLE. Woudl be nice if it would go back and say "hey you had these unrecognized recordings and we have update info on them, do you want to update the info...."

That would be nice if it did - curious to hear the answer.

So if i am reading this correctly, my brand new CD that I just bought and doesn't show any info is because gracenote doesn't have it in their database? I don't know why I always thought that it read the info directly from the disc.

to keithl's question above - it does not automatically update previously loaded cd's, but you do not have to re-load them to update either.... I forget the exact menus I used, but go the no title albul and then there is an option.... like update title or something... then it takes care of it.... doesn't take long.... as I rememeber

Interested - I dont know exactly how it works, but what I think happens is that the cd must have some unique code on it and the gracenote datatbase is a lookup table for that code to link to all the title info.... Which is why I think you have to tell it to update titles for no titled cd's after you have updated the gracenote database.... basically you are telling the system to "recheck the database"

iTunes vs. Rhapsody and others track info

Do I understand correctly that iTunes downloads will not register track/album/etc. info recorded from a CD-R to the hdd when ripping the CD but other services might, such as Rhapsody, Limewire, etc.?
