Steering wheel controls trim removal

Steering wheel controls trim removal

Hey guys,

I looked at the removal instructions for the steering wheel but they do not show if the radio and cruise control trim comes off in separate pieces or if it's one big piece. I was curious if anyone has removed the trim or has removed the airbag and can recall.

Any help would be appreciated.

Screws (#18) are located behind each trim piece on the steering wheel. First, unplug the switches from the sub-harness (#4).Then, you've got to pull the lower square piece (#8) away from the left and right trim pieces (#1 and #2), there should be small tabs that align it to each trim(See the guide lines). Then you can remove the screws and pull the trims off. Hope this helps.

my 09 cruise control button spring doesn't work anymore. have the new piece to replace. has anyone actually removed this cluster (#2) ? having some serious issues accessing the screws (#16) to remove (#8) piece, and (#18) screw. also appears to be another screw same size as (#18) behind the up/down paddles not shown.. also not accessible.

For my 2013, I had to remove the steering wheel, there is no other way to get to those screws.

Take the airbag out (there's a ground wire that can be a PITB to slide off, I used a pick). Squeeze the black tab on the yellow harness to disconnect the airbag.

Take steering wheel off by removing 1 bolt (mark a straight line with a sharpie to make it easier) and the harness connection.

Take the 4 screws off holding the back cover on

Remove the 3 screws that hold the paddle shifter and lower part of the switch.

The paddles have a metal washer/sleeve in them so if you hear something fall, that's it.

Unplug the switch and it'll pop out.
