Question Size limitations for USB drives?

Using a Corsair 2gb usb drive with some intermittent loss of audio issues but mostly problem-free (?think the car jitter interrupts the usb connections).

Wondering if bigger drives will draw more power and hence cause more playback problems? What's the biggest USB drive people use without problems, and what brand are you using?

After realizing the CD --> HD conversion is ~128kbps I've decided to ditch the HDD and buy a bigger USB drive (to play higher fidelity mp3s) if it won't cause frequent playback dropouts due to technical issues.

Thanks

Sounds like a loose connection. I would try another USB drive to see if it's the drive or the connector in the car.

8 GB Sandisk SDHC in a Digital Media USB dock, no problema, no matter the bitrate, and they can go above 800 kps in Apple lossless. Sounds to me like you're having throughput issues.

I noticed some flash drives work better than others, so you need to test them before putting all your media there. If it doesn't work you can still return it.

I wonder if anybody will buy and test the huge Kingston 256GB drive that's out there! - let me know !

I gave a 256gb corsair drive that does not work. I believe it's a problem with the file system though. Will have to repartition to be sure...

Problems loading wallpaper files from USB device

I'm trying to load wallpaper images from a USB memory stick. I've put several jpg images in the root folder. The car will recognize that a USB device is plugged in, but says there are no images. I've double checked the images and they are the right pixel dimension, and the file size is less than 100k.

I've tried two different Sandisk sticks, one is 1GB and the other is 16GB. Neither work, although audio files play fine off either stick.

Also, I tried a friend's old 512meg stick and it worked fine (using the same images that failed to load from my devices).

I'd sure like to be able to load wallpaper from one of MY flash drives - I'm pretty frustrated right now.

Any tips?

Thanks

If I recall correctly, I think I had a similar issue... What I did was stick the USB into my Windows XP box and re-formatted it using FAT32 and that did the trick.

Yeah, I tried that. I also used the sandisk utility to get rid of the U3 software crap. I've tried FAT-16 AND FAT-32. Still won't work. I even changed the name of the device, thinking the space in the default name was a problem.

I'm having the same problem with my 2010 TL and a Kingston 32GB drive. I get "unreadable device". I've tried reformating to FAT 32, same problems.

I got "unreadable device" on about 20% of my Mp3s. All my Mp3s had the album art embedded in the Mp3 file (I did this using Windows Media Player to get the album art to show up on my phone/Mp3 player, LG Chocolate 3). After removing the album art using WinAmp, the files play fine. My 2010 TL is the only player that had a problem with embedded album art.

I was about to say that my 32 GB iPhone 4 works fine, so we know it'll do at least 32 GB.

I've also done just fine with a very cheap 16 GB no-name drive from Newegg. Just make sure it's attached securely, and don't connect it an otherwise empty bay and then think you're going to do laps at VIR without skipping.

:-)

I mean...not that I'd ever do that.

64GB or Greater USB Flash Drive in Acura MDX - 2014

I was able to Get the 64GB USB Drive to work:
The answer to your Problem is This:
Fat 32 (an Old PC Standard) File system Limits the Size of the USB Drive to 32GB
You can get around this by Formatting the Drive with this Utility . This will Fool Fat 32 into accepting a 64 GB Flash Card. Worked for me.

I'm planning to get a 64GB flash drive and it says the format is FAT32 out of the box. That should work in our TL's right?

I have a Lexar USB 3.0 128Gb currently working in my 2012 TL. I've got roughly 80GB in use but can't put anymore music on it do to Acura's limitations.
I once plugged in a 640GB portable external hard drive and that worked but once again, the Acura file limitations kept me from using it.
